Hey guys, i have a 2002 f250 7.3 powertroke with 120,000 miles, my problem is it will not start unless plugged in, even when its hot out side, it will only start if my engine oil temp is above 100 degrees, i have had problems with hard start before and its always been the GPR, well i replaced it with a new one and it made no difference, I have new glow plugs but have not replaced them yet 'cause not convinced that is the problem, could it be the injectors, it runs great when it starts not rough or anything at all so not sure about that, i have had to use either a couple of times to start it when i forgot to plug it in ( I know, not good, and i cringed when i had to use it but i had to get home from work) but even then it fired right up and ran great, i had an oil leak in one of the Hpop lines o-ring replaced those 3 but still no change, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem or what i should check, should i go ahead and change the glow plugs, i put new ones in about 3 years ago

99% of the time...7.3L no starts (unless plugged in) are going to be related to high(er than yours!) mileage fuel injectors...so you might have plenty of ICP pressure...

but the wear at the inj poppet is (mechanically) retarding the injection timing...such that the injected fuel isn't hitting the cylinder at the appropriate time.

has this truck had an inordinate amount of idle time (ie, more inj wear than the odometer indicates, or injs replaced with questionable quality remans)??

here's a link related to your issue..might help some...

if you have access to a quality scan tool (not a code reader)...then I would monitor icp pressure , engine rpm (ON the scan tool)while cranking..if that checks out, run an inj buzz test...listening to audible differences in the tone of each buzz.

oil level ok?

thanks for the response i'll try to get a scan tool my buddy has one i'll get him to help, i do have a code reader on my tunner and have gotten a p1211 code that has to do with icp psi, i have seen it pop up before and cleared it and have'nt seen it for quite some time untill now, the other code is p0380 glow plug circuit fault, thats a new one i just put a new gpr in could that be the problem with that code
