How much play should the turbo have up and down when you grab the wheel? When we put the injectors in this weekend it seems to have a bit of up and down play... (atleast I think it was up and down but it could have been in and out...LOL Too much beer...)

Real question here:cool:

I know a little bit is ok. Mine always felt like it was moving a millimeter or two up and down when I'd check it.

I need to pull the intake tube again and see what way it was moving... It just makes a weird kinda tinging noise when its spooling down...

What oil do you run? I'm sure you're like the rest of us and change it on a regular schedule.

Other things to look at:
High crank case pressure will cause oil to be pushed through the cartridge and the shaft to be pushed to one side (oil is not isolating the shaft and bearing with a slow low pressure delivery), hence the tinging. You modified your CCV go check to make sure it has no restriction. Could be rings or upper ring lands wearing if the mileage is high on this motor.

Rotella dyno and synth... for oil, CCV is to air and pumps out a steddy stream. 120k on the motor...

My 38r had more play than the stocker that came off my truck. But if I drive it, then take the intake tube off and grab the shaft (with my fingers protected of course) there's hardly any wiggle. Ball bearings have more of a gap for oil.

I don't get any tinging noises though. Maybe you're on the way to killing yet another BB turbo? :poke:

Oil and mileage are should be just fine. Do you have a video of the steady stream? I'm interested in the volume if it's visable. Does it seem to change the amount of vapor during different driving conditions or temps? I know you can't look under the truck while driving but do you notice the smell change like it's gets stronger at times? How large is the CCV hose? Any connectors that would neck down and cause restriction?

Just trying to help figure this out.

3/4 hose, smallest fitting is the connector at the Doghouse... I want to get a used VC and delete the dog house with just a fitting but have not had the time really to look...

Colder puts out more... but for the most part its always about the same...

I'll see if I cant get a Video of the vapors in the next few days...

The BB will have more movement, IIRC I measured mine and had about .013 radial (side to side) and about .003 axial, which is fine. If you calculate how much the bearing moves over the distance to the point that I measured at, it's only a few thousandths of an inch. It's the tinging that worries me. If you have the turbine housing off feel for any metal transfer from the turbine blade. It should be smooth where the major diameter of the wheel is contained. If you have small metal transfers on the housing that is what you're hearing.

i just pulled my intake tube off and i found about 1/8 of a inch of movement
in and out and up and down there is a small bit of movement that is very minimal. if i push the wheel in it doesnt hit the housing .............is this ok?
