I am going to try tube bushings and a better clamp.
i cracked one and fabed one up.
not sure if the tube wears or not.

The indents are there but applying pressure to the right will knock it out of park.
On my truck....

It seemed to start better with the column loose.
when i snugged the four bolts. I am back to two handed starting.

Put foot on brake. Turn the key on with right hand , apply pressure on selecror with left hand till sweet spot hits.

Sounds like the wire that runs from Ur selector to the trans is really really stretched out
