Im new to the PSD world. have a 2001 250 a few mods, looking to upgrade fuel system. have read some of the other posts they have great information. what im looking to do is install the bosch 044 pump, remove the stock fuel bowl and add my own filters. my question is, is the fuel regulator part of the fuel bowl? again im new to this. im contemplating running all new fuel line from tank forward with new p/u. but at this time would rather not. what im getting at is id like to just throw in the bigger pump without changing anything. will that make a difference or do i need to change the reg and fuel bowl and lines?

I would not recommend using that pump without changing the plumbing. It would probably burn out without a major size increase in the hose from the tank. Think of sucking on a thick milkshake with a long skinny straw. The pump would cavitate releasing air to the injectors (costly) and likely burn up because it was not being cooled by a good flow of fuel.

Turn off the caps lock. No need to shout. Yes, the regulator is built into the filter housing. You should consider changing the feed lines to the heads and use a regulated return. You will also need pre and post pump filtration. Personally, I am putting that pump in in the next few weeks and will remove my OEM filter housing.

If you plan to remove the stock fuel bowl you will need an external regulator. The aeromotive version available through ITP is a great option.

It's adjustable up to 80psi, diesel rated, and works well for many many people.

I am doing it on the cheep so I'm using one from an OBS truck.

Let me know if you have any fuel system questions, I've went to great lengths to finally understand how most of it works, the way the stock system flows, etc. :D

As stated above, yes the fuel bowl is part of the FPR. No need to experiment, some pretty smart guys have figured this all out for us (not saying you cant do better) just saying its been thought out forwards and backwards many times.

Check out ITPdiesel, DieselSite and Diesel Innovations, all have pretty nice fuel systems. DI even has an inexpensive way of raising your fuel pressure via shims in the FPR/fuel bowl.

I also think you will be selling yourself short if you do not look at some of the high quality kits available from the places mentioned above.
