Front axle and 4wd,worn out** COMPLETED***

AS OF 9-30-07 PROJECT COMPLETED Thanks for all the advise guys

well i finaly hit a good sized rut at a job site with a fully loaded trailer and my right front u joint and axle shaft to the manual hubs.... finaly bit the dust. local shops are booked for atleast 3 days and i pulled it apart in my down time.... at this point i need to pull the shaft out, i tried but i heard somewhere there maybe a set screw or another ujoint in the axle????

here's the specs FORD F 250 2001, 7.3L with MANUAL HUBS, i have replaced the hubs before due to last owner never keeping on top of the o ring sliping out and binding the hubs (lock and un-Lock)

heres what iv done so far.....
for this pic is there a set screw in the houseing to get the axle to pull out?? or what?

this is what has the worn out play

No need to pull the cover. The axle will come out nothing inside holding it in.

In your third pic, that is a seal which can be real stubborn to come out. I tapped mine from the back of the u-joint with a hammer to get it out. Seal and shaft will pull out all together.

Good to see ya Ed, now I see what happened. We just had to do one of those too. Like Boggerr said it can be stubborn & not want to come out. Usually good to have another person around just so one can hold it while the other guy taps it. If I had been thinking I would have taken pictures when we did that.

Then you would have needed three people.
