I just found a LARGE hole in the rear of my Stainless MBRP exhaust....

It's about 1" square!

The edges of the hole are not round and look like it may have been made by some kind of object that impacted the 4" pipe..

I don't remember running over anything and I dont know just how hard a rock or similar object could hit it...

I think I'll have to go to one of my customer locations and grab a piece of scrap 316L tubing that they use, Cut out a patch and have it welded over the GAPING hole to repair it.

This should be fun.

I'm not sure of the wall thickness on this 4" T-304 Stainless Pipe but DAMN, This really suprises me.

I'll post again after I get the rear section off the truck for closer inspection.

Oh, I'm liking this site better than the "Other" one.

When I showed it to a customer who is Intimatly Familiar with 300 Series Stainless Tubing looked at it and immediatly said: Oh That's Metal Fatigue.

I said, Are you sure?

He goes: Oh Yea... Seen it before... See how the edges of it are ragged ?

That was not done by a rock or something like that.

He also pointed out a small bulge in the pipe near the hole! See that?

That's from Thermal Expansion and Contraction over time it gets weak... and finally cracks.

He said he would have his guy's weld a patch over it for a Case of Brew.

Just realised that the hole WAS where the Hanger pulled out of the tailpipe.

Yea, MBRP is sending me a new one.

I hope they have added a plate to the pipe and then welded the hanger to the plate...

THAT would spread out the area of tension where the hanger pulls on it..

Just got my replacement Tailpipe from MBRP...

They've lengthened the weld bead where the Hanger is attached to it.

They have also deleted the last bend on it so my Tip will now exit farther back from the rear tire.

I think that might just look better than it did before.

I may think about purchasing a new Tip: 6" O.D. x 5" I.D. and it'll still bolt up to the 4" tailpipe.

Wondering if the Megaphone Effect will make the Turbo Whine even LOUDER?

:D

O.K. I installed the new Tailpipe Saturday and was SURE it was the incorrect pipe until realizing that I was attempting to install it on the wrong side of the rear shock...

Jeezus am I stupid!

After putting it on the CORRECT side of said shock, it was a breeze.

Looks better than the other one cause the Tip now come out at a 45 degree angle and I like it Mo-Betta.

Thanks again M.B.R.P. for taking care of this issue for me.
