I think I pretty well know what/where to get everything I have left for the Fordota, except for one thing.

The truck is running a Strange rear end so what should I do as far as picking up something for a speedometer? Also, where do our trucks get the tach signal from? Might have to find something for that too.

Does anyone see any other issues I may run into by not using a stock rear assy? I will be using a 4r100 for the trans.

There's pics in my sig for reference.

Looks great.... I'd look at getting some AFCO shocks if I were you... they make the best drag rear shocks in the world period. I mainly do the drag racing thing and the fastest outlaw cars in the world all use AFCO, they are currently working with a few pro-stock teams as well... and have shown some pretty impressive results. You won't be sorry. :rockwoot:

If you're using the factory PCM it will know both speed and rpm. The 4R100 actually has it's own speed sensor internal, and the PCM obviously knows the engine rpm. Trace the wiring that goes to the factory gauge cluster and figure out what the signal types are and you shouldn't have too much trouble converting them to work with just about any type of gauge.

Might want to give the guys at PCS (powertrain control solutions) a call about the speedo in the 4R100. They know just exactly what it's output signal is and how you might be able to use it.

I'm guessing you need the speed sensor input for the PCM for shifting strategy? Why not just run the PCS module and joystick shift that baby? Then just run a manual tranny harness and PCM.

The truck uses the cam sensor for the tach signal. For speedo you could do a couple of things. You could duplicate the tone ring that is used on the stock ring gear and hang it on the output yoke or on the driveline. You could probably bore a hole in the output shaft housing and rig up something there, but I'd have to look at the casting to see if anything could be done there. I haven't seen a 2wd 4R100 in a while.

The cam sensor is much more complicated than anything that can be sent to a tach. The tach signal would need to be sourced post-PCM in order to get anything easily converted to fire a tach IMO.

The tone ring would have to be placed on the axleshaft to function properly. If it was on the pinion yoke, or tranny output shaft it would read incorrectly by a factor exactly equal to your rear axle ratio.

I swear the guys at PCS told me the tranny has a built in speed sensor.
