I finally got the dampener back on and now my serpentine belt wont fit between the fluidampr and the pulley on the water pump. So I figure I'll take the water pump pulley off but now the spacer wont come off the pulley shaft only the clutch fan. I'm ready to burn this mother down. No matter how many tools I buy or how many posts I read before doing a project There is always some major malfunction. The older I get the more I understand why people pay to have some one else work on their stuff.

I have never seen A post about problems getting the belt back on after the fluidampr install. God forbid what will happen if I ever throw a belt going down the highway I'll never get a new one back on.

i thought I heard about that with the OBS but can not remember who I was talking to.

I think you really have to force it in or try spinning the crank while feeding the belt in, really not the right way.

Yeah I sure as hell wouldn't want to break that belt on the highway

I'm gonna make my own fan wrench and I gotta go buy the wrench to fit the fan clutch and one for the spacer. I guess those three tools will have to become permanent residents of my tool box from now on.

Kainers, did you have any clearance issues with the belt? I might be able to slip a piece of paper between them. I tried to catch the belt and rotate the fan pulley but it's so tight I was afraid I would cut the belt.

I had no issues installing mine.. just had to move the radiator a bit to get my impact in to get the bolt out, then used a puller...

I had read somewhere that people used an axe in the flywheel teeth to tighten the bolt, so I did that very carefully... it was nerve wrecking though... but I know for a fact that it is to 212Ft-lb

Ha Ha, I've beaten it. :rockwoot:I guess I just needed a break. I finally got the spacer off the fan, loosened and removed 3 of the 4 bolts on the water pump pulley, loosened the 4th enough to wiggle the pulley and get the belt on then it was just a matter of reassembly. I really didn't want to spend another day messing with it. Thanks to all on this site and others for listening to me rant and for all the help. Seems to run OK so far.

I started to do that but was afraid I'd cut the belt. If I ever sling a belt on the highway I'll do that. I tried sliding a red rag between them and the lip of the rag had trouble squeezing between the two.

You sound like me when I'm doing anything on my truck. Anybodys truck it goes easy but mine is always a bitch with anything. So I feel your pain.

I'm just glad it's not just me. Whenever I'm done I'm always glad I did it myself. I learn more about toolin' on these trucks, If I ever have to do it again (on mine or someone else's) it will go much easier and the last time I had someone else work on it :badidea:was to install my comp 910 valve springs and I had to send the guy the link to the instructions on doing it with the motor in the truck, he didn't tighten my IC boots down so I blew one on the way home and he didn't put all the bolts back in my valve covers. For the forseeable future I'll keep reading posts, bustin' nuckles and doing my own work.

Alan, the water pump pulley is larger on the OBS trucks, then the SD's. You can get it in, just pinch the belt between the pulley and the dampner, and turn the pump pulley. It's tight, but it will fit.

Kenny, that was me that told you that!:D
Joey, I thought it was you:doh:

Doing your own work is far more rewarding than getting your wallet out and paying and knowing some jakeleg short cuts stuff only for you to find it later on. I was about to give up on my intercooler install and I took a break and went back too it and the pipeing went right on.
