When does he need studs. I'd think 26 psi of boost is getting real close.

Yes. If your intentions are to push the boost to 24-26+ PSI. And bypassing controls designed specifically to prevent serious damage to this engine. Ford pushed International over the years of production of the 7.3L PSD to get all they could out of this moter. So that they would have the Bragging rights in the diesel truck circles. So don't you know that the during the engineering process International tore up truck loads of 7.3 engines to find the limits on boost pressure. And then as a safety factor, as mentioned above, they programmed the ECM to start the defueling process aroud 21-22 to help protect itsself. As Ford didn't want to get famous for selling 7.3L diesel trucks with a bad record of blowing head gaskets.
Ask me how I know? ARP was next on my list of upgrades when I got to where I could find time to do it. But I knew everything about my truck Since I bought it new, my first new vevicle ever, I knew every breath it had taken. And I knew what its limits were. And had three 3-gauge pods to monitor everything that was going on.
Other than an early minor recall no one touched my truck. And after 18 years of having fun and upgrading it I got complacent. At 200k miles I decided to rebuild the entire front end. Upgraded all the ball joints, tie-rod ends, stabilizer bar, new hubs and bearings, new big brake rotors. Everything. I measured everything precisely and put all the new parts on precisely as they came off. But just to make me feel better I drove the back roads to the 4wd drive shop to get it aligned. It drove like a new truck.
I got there and as soon as I saw them take it back I thought oh ****! Those guys will figure out pretty quick it is not a stock truck. I had the tuner up one notch above dailly driver. But if they new or figured out what that knob was next to sterring wheel there are three more notches up. An I had not even taking it there. I fretted about saying something and bringing attention about it. Or thought nah they wouldn't notice or if did surely wouldn't go out and trash it. WRONG!
Finally said truck was ready, I walked out to my truck, and a young skinny, goofy kid, messed up teeth, and pin-pointed pupils, cames waking up to me and says, no kidding, "Man you got a bad azz truck!" I thought great just what I feared. As soon as I cranked it up it fired up and miised right off. I thought, welll ,I never shut it down until EGTS are below 300. He just shut it off hot.
Got home and parked it in my shop, where it lives. And I had been under last two weekends. Went inside and had dinner. Came back out grabbed a light and creeper to check and make sure they didn't leave something undone. And Damn! I had oil on the floor coming from rear of engine. And coolant on the floor coming from both end caps of the radiator. I don't tolerate leaks. And definitly no leaks before I left.
I repaired. Next six months I had to replace degass tank, water pump, oil cooler. All the while diagonising myself and with a number of other diiesel mechanisc and shops. Until was convinced what I thought when I first brought it home. Stretched head bolts. As every time I fixed something it ran great No issue. However, every failure I had I was towing. Whether it was tractor, boat, even my Gator or Sea-Doos. As it only built up just enough pressure in the cylinders when pulling a load. Just enough to ease the head off the block to over presureize either the oil or coolant jacket. I don't guess anyone has yet figured out the demize of my perfect 02 7.3/ PSD.?
Sorry guys, I should really get some help. I get mad every time I think about it! So, I currently have freshly rebuilt 7.3L bored 20 over with a lot more goodies than before and....ARP studs and rod bolts. Still on the engine stand Finshed detailing the engine compartment. Actually went to put it in a couple weeks ago and got about 6"s to having it in but engine hoist was hitting cowl. So put it back on the stand so I could adjust and get a different grip. But since then had all kind of things come up and haven't got a chance to get back out there.
Oh, the only good thing, or one of the good things, that came out of all of this. After the six months of fixing and repairing my 02 7.3L my wife was feeling pretty bad about it. So it was around Christmas in 2019 and she said something about it was time to let it go. And I should look to find another truck. I don't quite remember excatly what she said but I heard new truck. So on 12/29/2019 I had a new 2019 SCA Black Widow Edition F250 6.7L 4wd in the driveway. Before she had a chance to change her mind!

Oh..Think Stage 2 Turbo and injector upgrades and....BOOST FOOLER! = Strectched Head Bolts
