Trying to help my brother out. For several months his truck has taken 6,8,10 hits before it fires. Runs fine and always started "eventually". Well it finally left him stranded yesterday.

This is a bone stock 07 with 92k well maintained / easy miles on it.

what would be some of the things to check first? FICM?....or does this sound more HPOP related.

is it pouring black smoke while cranking? or puffing more of a greyish type smoke, mine was like that for quite some time and ended up being the gpcm, didn't matter what the temp was it wouldnt fire, replaced the gpcm and she fires right off after 2-3 seconds even if its a neg 5

so it blows absolutely no smoke at all no matter how long u crank? mine took quite awhile to make any smoke and after cranking for extended period of time 3-4 minutes in 10-15 sec intervals it would attempt to start just wouldnt fire

truck turns over fine but doesn't make any smoke no matter how long you crank it. It doesn't even try to start. oil is full and has good fuel pressure.

Current codes
P0611-fuel injector control module performance
P1378-FICM supply voltage circut low
P2291- injector control pressure too low-engine cranking

FICM Main Power 48.42 volts
FICM vehicle power 12.98 volts
FICM logic power 12.98 volts

Injector control pressure desired 1419.14 psi
Injector control pressure 0.00 psi
injector control pressure voltage 0.25

so it kinda pops off sputters then dies? repeat until it finally runs? does it have no balls till it warms up?

If so, sounds like time for injectors.
No sputturing. All or none. Hit it with the key and it would cycle 2x-3x longer than normal...then fire off. Once started it runs completely normal.

Now you can crank on it til the battery goes dead. no dice.

Do you have base oil pressure?

I pulled the oil sender and and put a gauge in, no oil pressure. when I removed the oil filter and tried starting the engine, the oil filter housing would fill very slowly with lots of air bubbles.

Looking like it is going to be the lpop or a hpop tube

My 2006 had similar issues over the past few years
most of the time is was oil cooler leak
1 time it was a o ring problem with oil cooler/high pressure system
air in line prevents starting properly
only my thoughts and experiences (I am not a mechanic)
