Hey guys,
I have a few buddies with 7.3 SD and mine is the only one with this issue.

There is a point in my accelerator travel where I hear a audible click from (I think) inside the steering column. It sounds more electronic than mechanical. A previous owner installed a BD exhast brake/torque converter lock-up and I suspect it is related to this. The exhaust brake is disconnected and as far as I know (I've only had the truck for a week or so) the lock-up is too.

My questions are:
1. Does this sound like the torque converter lock engaging and disengaging?
2. Is there significant benefit to trying to eliminate the exhaust brake BUT leaving the torque converter lock?

Thanks for the advice.

Look around under the dash for a small box.
That would be the trans control for the brake.
When the brake is on the tc should be locked.
My guess is you are hearing a relay..but not sure, nor have I seen a bd setup.
But all exbrakes with autos need a locker.
Soo why are you taking it off I was looking to add one to my truck.

Thanks southmike,
Yeah, the relay sounds about right. I'll crawl under there there when I get a chance tonight.

I'm yanking the exhaust brake cause it's busted and wired open. I don't feel like investing in the repairs but I think the tc lock still works... just disconnected. I figure it's better than nothing to reconnect that part of the system.
