I replaced my alternator today with 2 brand new ones from O'reillys and still have problems.

The voltage gauge for the past month would wave ranging from 12volts to 16 volts while the battery light would flicker when it would idle. When driving it would stop and stay consistent at around 14v like normal. But this morning on my way to classes, it stopped doing this and the voltage needle would sit around 12volts and the battery light is staying on.

I looked up what would cause this and I read that it is the voltage regulator. So I replaced the alternator and nothing changed. I drove it for a while and stopped ant another O'Riellys and had them test the alternator. The batteries tested fine, but the voltage regulator test would fall. So I pulled it and had them bench test it. But after testing it, the results would pass. So I tried putting in another one and it did the same thing. Pass the bench test, but fail the test in the pickup. I had them test my original one and it would test fine on the bench as well.

I am at a loss as for what it could be. I don't really want to be driving down the road and literally run out of power. This is my daily driver and I dong have any other vehicles to use is also another problem of mine.

Any Ideas?

A bad ground or corroded cable can make some weird stuff happen. A lot of times you can’t tell just by looking at it either. I hate dealing with electrical issues but I’d start looking there.
