Hello i have a 2000 7.3l 4" straight pipe tymar intake tuner on economy setting fuel crossover kit and oil crossover kit for now i just installed an egt gauge and im not sure if the numbers are right im seeing between 250 and 300 degrees at idle when ambient temps are in the 70s and while driving 55-60mph only seeing between high 400 degrees low 500 degrees and at WOT for about 10 sec ive only seen high 500s is this correct.....?? thank you..

Where is your probe at? Manifold or downpipe?

Those temps are low. I would guess your probe is in the downpipe which is why your readings are low. If it is in the manifold then you have a bad gauge or the probe isnt reading correctly, or needs adjusted.

Move your probe from the down pipe to the mainfold...

At idle I see 400 or little under depending how long it sits. At highway speeds 700-800.

If it is reading that low and it is in the manifold, you have an issue. Adjust the probe, check wire connections.

you want the probe in the center of the man. Remove it and make a guage from a pc of wire and set the depth. But I don't think that's the problem. But it is the first thing I would check. Could have a bad guage or probe.

I see 400 @ idle and 7-900 cruising. Don't ask what I see towing, LOL

Auberins digital gauge,I dont think its the gauge its acurate to ambient temps I dont think I put probe far enough into the manifold ill adjust it tomorrow and let u guys know what happens just needed to know what temps are normal thanks a bunch any other suggestions are welcomed..

Since it sounds like the OP got his answer, I'm gonna engage in a little hijacking.:gun: Do you drill and tap a hole in the manifold to install the EGT probe? When I do my rebuild, I want EGT's on my fresh engine so I want to make sure I do it right. Is there a standard size for the probe (so I can drill and tap while I am rebuilding and order the probe when I'm getting closer to install time)?

As you can see in the pic I have used both a clamp on style and a screw in style. The screw in style was a Isspro unit that used a 1/8 " pipe thread hole.

drill & tap is the best way just make sure the probe is in the center of the manifold you can adjust it.

I don't think that your temps are much too low. My truck is stock tuning, tires, and lift, I drive for mpg daily and then tow. I have a fresh autometer EGT gauge setup with probe in the manifold.

Cold start, the temps come up slowly and level to 200. Hot idle after about 20 seconds of non-towing are back under 350. I let the truck idle until temps fall under 350 to prevent turbo oil cooking.

Empty cruising on the flat freeway EGT is always under 600. That's the max good mpg temp, just like 2000 rpm is the max good rpm for mpg.

When on a big hill and empty I have seen 900 and when towing I have approached 1200 so I know the gauge works.

If your tune makes things cooler or hotter I don't know. It is supposed to make an engine more efficient so I would expect cooler temps.
