I did a search hoping to find a long winded thread on the best place to put the transmission temp sensor like there are for the pyro sensor but nothing came up on my confuser here. So where are you putting them? In the test port or in the line exiting the tranny going to the radiator?

I bought. A derale 13010 to put in the pan. But in my searching I did see a couple of articles on the net about using a simple sensor with a short tip on a test port on the drivers side near the shifter arm. But I need the autometer sensor to hook into the dp tuner I plan on running.

I run mine through the test port, but with a tee you can also run it in the line going TO the cooler, which I believe is the one towards the front.

So which spot will give the most accurate reading?

The test port. I've run A LOT of testing while measuring temperatures at the factory sensor, the test port, and 15-25 locations inside the pan, all at the same time.

The factory sensors are further up, they are not down in the pan where most people put their sensors. That lower position will be anywhere from 15-50°F degrees away from the factory sensor. Notice I didn't say cooler, but away. It can be hotter or cooler, depending on operating conditions.

On the other hand, the test port reading will usually be within about 15°F of the factory sensor, also plus or minus.

Well the sensor for the computer reads the fluid in the pan. So since most manufacture of transmissions use this I figured it good enough for my needs.

I put mine in the test port and also have a display on factory sensor. cold they read pretty much the same but once it warms up ive seen as much as 20 degrees cooler at the test port
just my experience though

Well i'm running a controller that will show me the trans sensor just a tiny display if they are to far off then I will move it.
