when i go about 20 miles and stop at a stop sign or what not and go again, i have to get it up to about 2500 rpm and let off of it and get back in the throttle for it to shift. anyone else have had this problem and what do i need to do to fix it?? thanks

Does the overdrive light flash on the shifter? I would check your fluid level color and smell first. If it is dark in color or metallic colored or smells burnt your converter or trans are on the way south. The stock converters are known to give out and smoke the trans with them. The solenoid packs also go bad often. If the light is flashing then you need to get it scanned. The part store scanners do not work on our trucks. You need to find someone with a high end scanner like a snapon, Auto Enginuity, etc.. or take it to a shop that can scan it.

i have not seen the OD light flash. i will check the trans fluid in the morning. but i can smell a burnung smell when i drive it on long trips and stuff. i think ill git my teeth and buy a new trans as much as i hate too. but if it needs one it will be best to buy a new one.

Well I would check all the things I mentioned first before buying a new trans. If you are just low on fluid it would be a bad decision to put a new trans in don't you think. On the issue of a new trans though, the best ones on the market are the BTS from Brians truck shop and John Woods. I have a pretty stout trans that I bought from an unknown shop in Florida that is an up and coming facility that is taking everything I can put at it without a hitch(knocks on wood). It all depends on how much you want to spend and what all you plan on doing to your truck performance wise.

yeah im gonna check out everything first before i just go out and get a new one. and i have heard some good things about those BTS trans. the only thing i have planned for the truck performance wise is to get a cold air intake and a chip. i just put an exhaust on it so im good there. you know of any good chips or programmers for a decent price our trucks??

Some quiet reading for you to research chips and what will work best FOR YOU and YOUR GOALS.

As for tuners versus chips Tunes you can not switch tunes on the fly you also will be limited to generic tunes or only one maybe two custom tuners and then you will be very limited in your choice again. In just about every way the chip is better choice. One thing that can be of confusion on here if you are somewhat new is the use of the term "tuner". On here we are almost never referring to the device called a "tuner" but the person that actually is writing the tunes themselves for the chips.

I would say, easily, 99%+ of members on here and most other dedicated 7.3 sites use a chip not a tuner.

One other thing to keep in mind: the maker of the popular chip used by many tuners to installed there tunes on is the "TS chip" )6 position chip). But that same manf also sell that chip with generic tunes directly to the public as well. So you will see comments about "TS style chips" from one of the custom tuners you are about to learn about with some reading. You want the ones from the custom tuners not the generic TS chip and tunes directly from TS or others. You will quickly understand the difference with some reading.

thanks for the info on the chips and programmers. Ill look into the TS chips i have heard that they are a pretty good chip.
