I was given an E4OD from a 1997 F-250 4x4 with a 7.3L. The guy rebuilt it and upon installation it had issues. Supposedly high quality parts were used including clutches and steels, shift kit and other miscellaneous parts. He said the truck felt like it started out in second gear and would shift to third. Converter lock up didn't feel right to him (tach would bounce around). Tried a rebuilt solenoid pack with no success. He thought maybe he put in a one way clutch backwards (is that possible?). He didn't have time take it apart so he installed a Monster trans and everything was good. I am considering tearing it apart and fixing it for my 1997 F-250. Something must be assembled wrong in the trans or valve body. Any thoughts on what to look for?

Yes, I found an online version of the ATSG manual. I've read a few E4OD build threads, too. I can't see to find where is specifies which way the one way clutches are supposed to be installed.
