I have a 97' 7.3l P.S. in the field. Most of my other trucks are 7.3idi. Anyway, my trans just went south in the powerstroke, and I have access to a 7.3l idi E40D for a couple hundred bucks that works. Can I use the idi E40D in place of the one behind the powerstroke now. It is a rebuilt unit, and may have updates, but not 100% sure. I know the torque converter is a six bolt in the p.s. and a 4 bolt behind the idi, but is the trans the same? My plan is to use the idi E40D and out a new torque converter in front of it. Your wisdom is most appreciated.

You will have to change the solenoid pack in order to use the idi trans but other than that you are good to go. The solenoid pack from the idi trans has a different connector on it. A six bolt converter will slide right in place with no problem.
