after 3 months of nothing but trouble with my 08 f250 6.4L i am starting a duramax/allison swap. i bought a wrecked 06 gmc sierra classic with the 6.6 and 6 speed allison. comes complete with everything needed, truck runs and lot drives.
Basically this idea started after the truck first had a turbo failure which went in under warranty at 6,000 miles. then 5,000 miles later i had a turbo fire due to an improperly installed o ring or some crap. it burnt up the engine harness, intake manifold and various other underhood items. ford will not take responsibility and i am now stuck with a dead $30,000 08 ford.
My father, an avid chevy owner who has been giving me grief since day one with the truck, decided to give me some advice and point me towards the possibility of a more reliable and proven setup that his truck is running. so he found me the wrecked chevy and now its all starting, so far i have the ford motor out and im cleaning and sorting burnt wiring. joining the two harnesses doesnt seem like it will be much of an issue since the duramax/allison computer is almost stand alone with only outputs for gauges aside from the obvious ground, positive feed and ignition requirements. i know i will get flamed for this, but when i finish im sure i wont be the only one interested.

Sounds like a troll to me.

However giving the benefit of the doubt my first obvious question would be how are you going to deal with the regen requirements? This assumes that you will need to smog or get inspections. If you don't need this than you are pretty lucky.

Oh well I do not care how much stinkin power a dirty max makes I like my stuff built here in the U.S.A. maybe the other two (Cummins Powerstroke) are not built here but at least they are not chinkaneese! D. maxes have there own issues not to mention they are a nightmare to work on try putting a cp3 on one you will cuss all day . I would have put a cummins in it and been done with it.

Do you guys really think this is true? Sounds too much like marketing hype and troll BS to me. I'll believe it when I see pics.

Don't you have to pull the whole cab off just to get the engine out? I thought I read that one time, or at least pull off the fenders?
I still want to pick up a 08 Ford with a V8 gasser down the road after the price comes down. Then install a 7.3L Powerstroke & a set of stacks. :ford:

I actually bought my 06 F250 with the intention of doing a 06 CR Cummins and 6 speed allison. i wanted the best of all worlds. but unfortunately money became tighter than expected and it had to be put on the back burner. if thats the swap he is planning then more power to him, hell if it works out, i might be interested in doing the same. i have seen some ridiculous high horse duramax's that are almost par with the cummins on the dyno, and the ability to rev higher than the cummins and sound like a gnarly V8 is a nice plus.

OK so let me get this stright Ford tried to fix it and then it caught fire and you had NO aftermarket parts and they wont warrenty it? I call Bull #### and then some I would start beating ass if they didn't fix a brand new truck they screwed up, and I wouldnt let them walk over me like that. Good luck with a duremax swap.

Its amazing how some people are so quick to judge someone. I say more power to him, he has the balls to man up and fix a problem truck which was doomed from the start with something a little out of the ordinary. If it weren't for people like him nothing that you take such pride in would exist. If someone said to you in the mid 80's diesels will be making a comeback in 10 years, hell, not long after that most of them will beat any car of this decade with nothing more than a computer program. Bill Gates took a worthless program and look where he is now.

I threw up the :bsflag: on TDS about the guy from Earnhart building the Shortbed Reg. Cab Harley Edition. Sounded crazy and he proved about 20 people wrong and then we all had to bow to the truck. I'm not going to do that now, but it is kinda stinky. We'll see. You come on here with that story, you better produce some pictures to shut us up. I agree you should have taken it back to the dealer, then get a lawyer. You probably could have gotten that truck lemoned. Good luck. I'll call BS and TROLL until I see some picutres. Then I'll REALLY mean it when I say good luck.

Here are the reasons I think this is a troll

1. 1 post
2. No evidence of this on the duramax pages
3. Starts out with serious bashing of Ford, sounding VERY biased.
4. First I have heard/read of any turbo troubles with a 6.4L
5. No pics
6. Emissions requirements
7. Fords warranty denials are bad, but are they really THAT bad?

add more if you want, but I'll believe this story when I see pictures or the burnt engine, and the subsequent removal, plus pics of the wrecked GMC.
