I was looking around on here for a review of the DP-Tuner specifically for the OBS guys and I was unable to find one. I figured I would do one for all the guys debating wether to get this chip or not or just for guys looking for different options. Here'it goes.......

A few months ago while looking around for a chip, the one that appealed to me the most was the Dp tuner. I liked all the options it had and the tinees that were offered. Not that any other chip company has tunes that arent good, I just liked the set up of the Dp tuner the best. The thing that I really liked was the Gauge mounted program vhanger. You can see what tune your in and you dont have to drill your dash or anything like that to mount a knob. I got the changer that mounts off an existing gauge, the other option is a tune changer that is the shape of a 2 /16 gauge, so if you have a empty gauge spot or want it on your steering column, you can mount it there as well. I ordered my chip from from Stricly Diesel in Arizona. The installation actually went smoother than I expected. You have to pull out some screws and bolts from around the wheel well to pull it down to get clearance in order to pull the PCM out. It would have been a breeze for me if the previous owner didnt leave huge amounts of duct tape on the back of the PCM. When I tried to pull it out, it kept getting stuck. I had my dad pull off the cover by the hood release to see what was holding it in. And sure enough it was the tape. This took a good 20 mins to figure out and put us a litte behind schedule. But that was my problem, if your truck hasnt had a chip in it ever, the PCM will slide out with no problem. So, we got the PCM out and on to a big piece of plywood, I over did it to make there was no chance static could get to my chip or PCM. We got the PCM apart no problem, and luckily for me, the previous owner did a hell of a job cleaning off the terminals on the chip dock. Couldnt be better. We installed the chip back in to the truck and put everything back where it was. The chord from the chip to the changer is perfect, not too much slack, but not too little. Once everything was mounted, I couldnt wait to crank her up. We got her started and let it run for 5 minutes to make sure that everything was in place andthat I got no check engine light or any of that other good stuff. Once in the clear, I ran the truck through the settings and noticed a difference instantly. I could really hear my injectors from position 2 and on....:evil. We got her on the road and went through each tune. The 60hp economy tune was unbeleivable on the highway. When I used to cruise on the highway my EGTs were around 650-700 degrees at about 65mph. Now when im doing the same speed its about 550-575. Pretty big difference. I dont know how they set it up for cruising speeds, but mine does alot better than it did before. I have 4.10s in my truck, so naturally I would be at higer rpms at higher speeds, but the rpms dropped about 300, so its alot more comfortable to drive on the highway. The 80hp economy tune is probably the best all around tune for street driving. You can drive nicely for gas mileage and if you need to get around an idiot or two, or just have fun from light to light, this tune will do it. The power is there off the line so your not a pig when you leave the light, and if you want to turn it loose, you can. The 80hp tune really isnt too smokey which I like, but if you get on it, it smokes a bit and clears up like it should. The 120hp race tune is awesome. Probably my favorite tune of all of them. If you want to crank up the fuel and turn your truck loose this will do it. Off the line it lags a little, and smokes a good amount and finally clears up. Depending on what you have in your tranny, it will shift pretty hard as mine does.(mods in sig) I wouldnt reccomend driving this tune around because the shift points are a little higher and its a little jumpy from light to light. The 140hp race tune is a great tune, if you have mods such as baby swamps, stage 1's or a HPOP. You will see a higher gain in performace with these, and the best part is, if you have 120 race and 140 aggressive, you dont have to get your chip reburned to suppourt the added horsepower and torque. Over all this chip is great, couldnt be happier with it and it was totally worth the $520.00 I spent on it. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. If this is a possible chip option for you, I highly suggest it. Enjoy the added power!!!!:ford:

Yes, my rpms are a little lower at cruising speeds. You can hear the injectors more. Sounds like different truck when I drive it.

What does it mean? I mean it sounds like I have bigger injectors.

I read around and a few guys said theyve had the same thing with the DP tuner, when they put in another chip it went away. Is this something to be worried about?

Glad you are happy. Don't let anyone here scare you. You are not hearing too much timing. I can show you where Jody actually uses less timing than stock factory tune. Not sure why you are noticing a difference in each tune at idle. They should all sound the same, even the stock tune.

It sounds stock at idle, just when I step on the gas does it sounds different.

Thanks man, had me scared for a minute. The truck runs strong as hell and the egts are low. I couldn't imagine anything was wrong.

#15 ·
I apologize! really love the tunes! Tell Jody thanks!

I read somwhere that with the obs 7.3s you couldn't get a higher tune than 60 to 80 hp because of the injectors. So this isn't true I'm assuming. Sorry for my stupidity I'm brand new to modding a 7.3 but I was planning on getting a dp tuner. What do you guys think a good tune would be with 5.13s for a little more pick up and realiability.

I installed a DP/Tuner chip at the same time I installed a Dual Terminator. Between the two there was a considerable increase in torque across the powerband using some old Maddog stageII 160 splitshot injectors. The injectors made 408 hp on a dynojet before, and it felt like it was making a lot more hp than in the past with lower EGTs.

I'll use them again for my next engine install.

Running a 120 tune on stock injectors won't over work them or hurt anything? My main thing is realiability but some passing power is always nice! I just want to figure out what my two main tunes should be and then have the decel tune between them in the selection. I've heard that the 80 eco is nice and streetable but I dont want to prematurly wear my injectors out or anything. Thanks in advance.

Yeah what brad said. The 80 economy tune is awesome, I'll chirp when I pass people sometimes even.

Thanks alot for all the help guys.
