were changing the pinion seal im my brothers 97 f250 and not sure what fluid we need to put back in it and if we should add friction modifier or not

If it has a Sterling 10.25 or 10.5 rear end, as I believe it does [if not a dually], its around 3.5 qts of 90w145 synthetic (updated standard since 1997, I believe); add modifier if it has a working limited slip. Check the tag on the cover for the LS code [I don't know how they were coded in the pre-superduty days].
