dropped a valve on my 02 7.3 and it cracked the block. i got a good block out of a 97. my question is are the blocks different other then the fuel pump hole will my crank and cam from my 02 work in the 97 block?
The blocks are a bit different. I believe the 02 crankshaft has a slightly larger counterbalance which requires some additional material to be removed from the block. Otherwise the blocks are the same, except for the already noted fuel pump hole. I would imagine that you could set the crank in the block and rotate it to find where you need to remove material. I have a pdf that describes the changes somewhere at home.

I own and repair a 96 extended cab long bed 2x4 auto that’s white.
Thanks for maintaining this site it’s helped me a ton over the years. I hope to be able to give back eventually.
I have a 1999 7.3 that has been giving me issues when cold not wanting to accelerate. Now it is doing it when warm. Today it was not moving at all than started revving up and down while slowly moving. Any ideas?
