Hey Everyone. I’m new to the diesel world and just bought a 97 F250 Auto. It was said to have needed a new PCM so I ordered a new one and put it In today.

I’m getting the WTS light staying on, no tach reading (with new CPS) and 324 codes. Most of them being circuit failure or malfunction or voltage supply circuit low.

But my scanner is reading 12.34 volts

It’s all the same codes after clearing them... didn’t even have to crank for them to come back.

Get FORScan scanning software for Fords (free) and an OBDII reader. It is especially for Fords.

Those are strange codes. FORScan will tell you the real deal. Also, if all those "come back" without cranking, I would suspect your code reader for sure!

Are you sure you ordered the correct PCM?

I doubt there are 324 codes defined for these trucks. But the transfer case shift motor certainly is NOT connected to the PCM, so that code definition doesn't even apply. We need to see the code NUMBERS (DTCs) - not the definitions (which are often wrong for these antiques on modern scanners). You also need to put ALL the truck's details & history (as much as you know) into your signature so it shows with each post, as this page explains:

Phone apps don't always show signatures, so you may need to switch to a real browser in desktop mode on your phone, or just use a desktop/laptop computer. Put your location (nearest city) in your profile & upload an avatar of the truck. The more pics you post of the truck, engine, wiring, labels, & undercarriage, the more likely we can help you. Not all its details are relevant to these issues, but you don't necessarily know which ones are relevant, so just put everything in now.

Are you sure you ordered the correct PCM?

Pretty sure. The original ecu I sent out to get rebuilt and they said it was beyond rapair and told me I needed dpc 202

I don't believe that you scanner is coming up with correct codes for our trucks. 99% of the scanners out there will not read the codes on our trucks, you need on for Ford specific codes

As was mentioned there are a number of codes on your list that are not monitored by the PCM on these trucks, so they are false readings.

Look into FORScan Lite to run on a smart phone along with the ELM 327 Bluetooth adapter. FORScan Lite is a free app.

As for codes here is a link to what you should see, the code will start with a P such as P0603 which is a PCM code for Keep Alive Memory which will be set when the trucks batteries are disconnected.

what would P603 tell me? That the ecm isn’t working or is? Or were you just giving that as an example?

I think he was just giving an example. The P603 code is the Keep Alive Memory code that shows up when the batteries have been disconnected. Cheers!

Look, FORScan is free. I bought the license because I like it so much, but you do not have to!

I built my first truck (Here) and didn't know squat about civilian diesels.

FORSan has bee wonderful.
