Hey guys I went to the dealer today and I asked them if they sell the test strips to check the coolant nitrate levels. They gave me a couple strips and said they don't sell them really. I took a picture of the bottle and was wondering if these are the strips everybody is using/ is this the right test strip to use ?

There are two seperate tests done for our orange coolant. The old style of test strips are used for checking glycol level but that is all I believe. I have the full procedure on my work computer and will post tomorrow. DO NOT USE ANY ADDITIVES IN THE ORANGE COOLANT except the right stuff. Vc 12 I think. These new orange coolant trucks are special. All other diesel truck coolant additives are wrong. No it is not the same additive for all normal trucks.

I bought the kit to do it myself.

If needed VC-12 is the additive to use but can only use twice in the coolants lifespan.

It was $76 for the kit. Will last a lifetime but unfortunately has a short shelf life.

I was told the same thing the test strips have a short shelf live so only realy cost effective for fleets, and that as long as you continue to use/top off with the proper orange ford coolant you will not have a problem with cativation. So i just over fill my radiator and it keeps "refreshing" the anti cativation properties.

The coolant test reminder comes on automatically every 600 engine hours. The strips are easy to use, just dip in a sample (from the drain not the overflow tank) and compare colors. I bought a 4 pack of test strips from acustrip in denville, NJ for $5.67 with shipping. They also sell 50 count bottles but these will expire before you use them. Test your coolant and add extender as necessary. Oddly the Ford dealer doesn't seem to understand the consequences of not doing this!

Caution... Use the new kit and test strips. The old style that has been used for the last twenty years or so are not the correct ones for our 2011 and up trucks...

Thank you Crazy Canuck for the real 'Ford Coolant Additive Instructions' PDF posted in message #3. There is so much strange and wrong commentary on this topic, and the Ford instructions make it very clear.

I found that both Acustrip (ACU-ELC4048) and Ford Rotunda (328-ACUELC4048) now sell a kit online which has two of each required tests for basically $25.

So, with two cooling systems on the 6.7L the kit provides a single use test set.

Thanks again, and I hope your post and the new part number helps someone else ...

My coolant is red... Not orange
