I have an 05 with the triple dog GT tuner. The wrench light on my dash came on and i pulled up the diagnostic codes and the triple dog had a code P012F unknown code. Has anybody seen this one or know what it is? Thanks for the help!

Befriend Google.
p012f means the difference in engine coolant temperature compared to the engine oil temperature threshold has been met, usually resulting in limiting the engine power. This number is XXXXX 12 - 14 degree difference, what usually happens is the coolant has rust formed and restricts the eot cooler and the engine oil overheats. The fix is replace oil cooler, check egr cooler, and chemically flush cooling system.
Oil cooler efficiency monitor - DTC P012F stored and wrench warning lamp illuminated when the oil coolers efficiency drops below a specified threshold for a given speed and vehicle load condition.

How is the truck running? Any puking out of your degas bottle? Smoking at all?

Trucks running great. haven't notice any puking out the degas bottle but haven't checked it since the code came up. And no noticeable smoking.

:whs:

Wouldnt be a bad time to put a coolant filter on to reduce the chances of it happening again.

This code will only apply to 05-07 engines.

TSB 09-24-3

My suspicion is that Ford didn't feel that the engines w/ the round EGR coolers need this DTC, but who knows ....

Edit - I forget about the E-series ..... it applies to 08-10 E series 6.0L engines also.

like you stated only on the latest flash is it present
I wonder why the ones your seeing don't do it ?
I had heard about this part of the newest flash and even considered getting it installed to prove to the dealer I had cooler issues
but I got them to change my cooler without needing that proof

That's good diag Kyle. It's got a dtc
let's through parts at it.

------
Watch your ect and eot temp pids
The split should be 15degrees
If it's more you have a restriction

I'm sure if I dug around a little, I could find what has to happen to trip that code. 12-14 deg doesn't sound that bad. Unless it's hanging out there all the time. Excluding working the engine of coarse. Wouldn't think it would trip the code just because of a brief split in temps.

thanks for the info guys, you've been alot of help! I was watching the eot and ect the other day and my wrench light came on again when the two hit a difference of 25 deg. I'm looking at either the sinister or bulletproof kits for the egr and oil cooler, what are everybody's opinion on the two?

As stated above, it indicates oil cooler efficiency problems. If you push the engine hard, the oil cooler efficiency will drop. It is normal to see the engine light be intermittent with this code.

Could be a bad temperature sensor, or the oil cooler can be plugging up on the coolant side.

Get an electronic gauge system - ScangaugeII or the TorquePro App (if you have an Android device).

Boy this was dug up from way back huh!

Ehh, I'll participate. I once had a 40 degree spread while cruising. Knew the truck needed a new cooler, but had to make it a couple more days before I could swing the install. Bad I know...but we do what we have to do. Anyways, point being, even with a 40 degree spread, I never threw that code.

Your oil temperature sensor might be bad (or wiring might be bad), Your coolant temperature sensor might be bad (or wiring might be bad), or you might have a plugged up oil cooler.

Most likely it is a plugged up oil cooler.
