And more on point, many of his videos/theories are just wrong....or stupid.

that guy is an idiot..

To the OP,

If you ever want to know anything about the HEUI system on your truck, if you know anybody at a CAT dealer, just ask them, Cat designed it..
As others have already said, the HPO system receives oil from the low pressure lubrication system to the HPOP. At that point, the pressure is stepped up and sent to the injectors. Once it enters the injectors and is used to fire the individual injector, the oil is dumped out of the HPO system via spillports on the injector bodies. It is dumped out ontop of the heads and allowed to return to the engine oil pan, so that it can start the trek again...
Theres alot more going on between the steps above, but thats pretty much the skinny on it.

what are you gonna do about the oil in the heads & inj???
You could pull the plug on the back of the heads and drain most of it out. Then run your bats down starting it after an oil change.

I have always heard and read that crankcase oil circulates up to the HPOP and back as the 7.3L is running... I believe it does... But @ what Rate? Because the oil in my HPOP is nothing like the oil in my crankcase... Even sliding it between my fingers was a difference between night and day... If the oil looked the same in both places I would never even think about this matter... But in my 7.3L it really makes me wonder...

Then drive it on 6 cyl for a hundred miles.

I don't think I could bring myself to go to that extreem. Hell, my lawn mower hasn't had an oil change in 12 yrs. Just add a little once a season. True story.

I'm not convinced that it matters that much. Do you have a blackstone done @ every change also??

i have changed the oil from the hpop and noticed your oil from crankcase stays cleaner longer. I think it helps. But every one is different.

What has this site turned into?

Everyone who thinks that changing the HPO is necessary - you need to take a step back and listen to those who have been around this site for alot longer than you. This question has been brought up numerous times over the years, always quoting that Powerstroke douche on Youtube - and every time it gets the same responses.

LISTEN to those who have posted already, by adding comments like this you are further pushing our community backwards with this type of thinking.

HAHAHAHA, That guy is such a tool

Anyone who thinks otherwise, the HPOP is fed from the LPOP. Which comes from the crankcase....

Dont worry Rosko I thought Bill was on to it when I got me a Effie. Im a bit more edu -mack -ed now and realise he is a dope.

Same here only have about 8 years on it but I never change the oil in it. My dad and uncle can't stand it. I just tell them when it craps out, they can have it as an experiment.

... But @ what Rate?...
That's easy to know.

Stock injectors require 7 gallons of oil to inject 1 gallon of fuel into the engine. So if you are driving 70 MPH and getting 17.5 MPG you are burning 4 gallons of fuel per hour. This means your injectors are using 28 gallons of oil per hour. If the HPOP reservoir held a quart, it holds less than a quart, you would be using it's capacity every 32 seconds.

444-4D Thanks for all that information... I will copy and paste that info into my documents...

But Why is the oil in my crankcase after 2k miles since last oil change... still golden and clear and the oil within my HPOP Very Black and Some what Gritty{feeling the oil between my fingers}... It's seems to me if this oil is cycled through the system that fast... The oil would be the same through out the system...

I guess this is one for the Grey Ghost File.

I know this debate is beyond talking about any longer... But seeing it and feeling it in person...Makes a fella really think something is not working the way it was intended to work...

I have no idea how your oil is golden color after 2k miles.

With my brand new engine the shiat was black in 10 miles LOL

depends on the oil.

If I told you, you wouldn't like the answer.

I would, what is it??

Imagination gone wild.

:hehe::hehe::hehe:

Changed mine. Took a total of about 20 minutes and a few quarts of oil. It was very thick and looked bad. My question would be why wouldn't you change it? Everyone is talking about mods and other stuff they could put on their truck Why not do this simple thing?

it changes itself as the engine runs... so why bother?
For those wondering about the rate, while I cannot say for sure, I do know that the Cat version of this setup exchanges the oil in the HPOS at a very fast rate....
IF one were so inclined, they could get some dye for engine oil and put it in the HPOS and start the truck....
