California emissions to federal emissions?

178 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Shanes
I have a 1997f 250 with California emissions and have had some electrical problems and I can’t find a wireing harness anywhere! Can I convert it to a federal emissions? The harness between the 2 is pinned completely different along with the pcm. Can I just swap a pcm and harness from a federal emissions? Will The injectors need to be swapped to single shot ? I appreciate any help I can get.

If you CAN find all those parts, then you CAN swap them all. But it'll be a LOT more work & hassle than just fixing the existing problem.
I'll agree with Steve. It's probably easier to fix the existing harness. If you did want to swap, there are a few options. To completely go to Federal singleshots you would need a new harness (or fix and repin the existing harness) a Federal DPC-202 or 203 PCM (depending on what trans you have) and singleshot injectors. You could also keep the splitshots, get a new harness (or fix and repin the existing harness) a Federal DPC-202 or 203 PCM (depending on what trans you have) and have the PCM reflashed to the California 1996 MIF or AUG-series splishot program (again depending on what trans you have). I have a document for repinning a 97 Cali harness to work with a Federal DPC-202 or 203 PCM if you need it. Cheers!

Could I get the document for repinning the harness? I should just be able to buy a federal harness and add a few wires and repin it to work with mine correct?
Note that my document is for repinning a 97 California harness so that you can use a Federal (DPC-202 or 203; tranny dependent) PCM as the Cali DPC-312 or 311 PCMs are very hard to find. If you're trying to repin a federal harness to work with a Cali PCM, that's different. Federal harness won' have the Glowplug monitoring circuit wiring at all. Cheers!

Thank you. This is the best idea I can come up with unless I just swap it to a federal emissions. As of right now I only need a harness but when I tried to find a pcm and seen there prices I was considering swapping it to federal to eliminate future hard to find parts and extremely expensive parts!!Thank you again for the help
