I've always just let the system work it out on its own, but I give a little nudge by parking it on a hill with the nose up and running it. Sounds weird but it has worked for me every time. Also, make sure you're not running AC while trying to get coolant level down. Some of these have a heater shutoff valve which activates when the AC is on. That can be a place an air pocket can form as well.
