Depends on usage and driving style.

I've had brakes worn down to nothing in 30-40k on some of our work trucks.

450/550 pads are like twice as thick as the 250/350 ones......but none the less 90k is impressive if you are loaded the majority of the time. Our 99 has 65k and I just did the first set of pads, but it's a auto and is loaded (often heavy) the majority of the time. If you just tow it's different since you have trailer brakes.

rotors will warp before pads on some trucks..
at least on mine

my freind has a superduty v10 and he said he had a brake pad come off??
he almost never uses his truck though has something like 4000 miles, and a few years on his truck.

but driving style and conditions are everything with brakes.
hot rodding in the mountains will drop your brakes to 25% life etc..

Yeah, I have had pads start to come off the backing plates.....normally that will start to make noise before they actually fully separate.

For the F350 I had most of the time it was empty but I had a load in the bed.

With the F550 it was loaded 100% of the time from 0-55k miles then when I bought it I used it as 40% tow 60% empty with a load in the bed.

Really depends on the driving style. Do you just come up to a stop sign & stand on them, or do you coast up to the sign? Have you been brake torqueing your truck for a lot of.....(cough)....(cough)....BURNOUTS? :D
I'd say check em normally & change em when they need to be changed.
