Brake replacement instructions

hi guys

I am going to be replacing the brakes within the next week.

1.Does anyone know if the brake replacement procedure is different then the other superduties?

2. Does anyone know where I can find instructions online to replace the brakes on a F550? (i came up dry)

thanks,
Andrew

I am going to do a complete job rotors, pads and calipers
Another member (NWSUPRD) and I are going to be doing this. I want to do everything at once so I dont have to mess with my brakes again for a very long time.

Is their anything different I have to do on a F550 versus a F 350?

thanks,
Andrew
What do you think of this setup? Hawk SuperDuty pads with Powerslot rotors and stock ford calipers.

My truck is pulling to the left when I brake hard so how would I fix that?

thanks,
Andrew
Yes I am sure it has nothing to do with the accident.

Thanks Stewart for the instructions. What is wrong with the regular rotors?

Do some superduties have ABS in the rear and others dont?

thanks,
Andrew
On their website it is a little confusing because the 2wd F550s 99-2004 are w/o rear abs then it says 2002-2004 with abs.

then for the 99-2004 4wd F550 it says all w/o rear abs

mine is a 4wd 2000 F550

Does my truck have rear abs?

thanks,
Andrew
A lot of Excursion and SuperDuty owners suffer from brake shimmy/pulsing brakes. Some describe it as a "warped rotor", when in fact it's uneven pad material that's been transferred to the rotor due to hot spots in the metal.

No amount of turning the rotors fixes the problem, but replacing them with cryo treated rotors like the Cryo Powerslots or ART rotors, coupled with a good pad like Hawk LTS pads or EBC pads, does.

The standard or non-cryo treated Powerslot's are still susceptible to hot spotting.

Whenever you do change the rotors, make sure you use a two-step torque method. Torque all of the lug nuts to 80lbs first, then 165lbs.

Don't forget to bed in your new pads to the new rotors properly.

Stewart
Hi Stewart

I am going to replace everything at the same time (rotors, pads and calipers)
I also have a exhaust brake and use it everyday it needs to be fixed though

I need to check with powerslot but I did not see cyro rotors for the F550

I was going to go with the superduty pads do you think those would be a good choice for my setup?

How do you bed the pads properly to the rotors?

thanks,
Andrew

These are they guys I shop with.

Fill out your signature so we know what kind of truck you got.....

Their cryo rotors for a F350 are $271 for the front pair and $294 for the rears.

on edit Summit racing has cryo powerslots for $179 a pair

The guy from Hawk recommended either the ceramic or the super duty pads.

So here is what I am going to go with

1. Superduty pads
2. Cyro Powerslots If they make them for my truck if not the regular rotors
3. Stock Ford calipers

sound good? any problems with this setup?

thanks,
Andrew

I'm still trying to understand why you feel the need to replace the calipers.

Stewart
Because if I dont I will be looking over my shoulders wondering if its going to affect how long my new brake setup lasts. I rather do everything at one time and not have to worry about a part that was not replaced.

Andy
If you are going to replace anything just because you are worried it might hurt the brakes. Replace the caliper slide pins and the caliper mounting bracket. They are where the problems happen. Clean the pins, clean the pin bores and call it good.
After further thoughts I will do what you have suggested.....

Right now my truck is pulling to the right when I brake what would be causing this?

thanks,
Andrew
When I made my first post I misstyped The truck pulls to the right when I brake. I am going to print out the instructions you provided.

thanks,
Andrew
To get Cyro rotors its an additional $190 for front and back + $527

Is it really worth it?

thanks,
Andrew
1. If the fronts are cyroed and the rears are not Is their going to be uneven brake pad wear?

2. Should I get Superduty pads or LTS?

3. Are the superduty pads noisy?

4. How do I know if my calipers are bad?

5. How do I know if my bearings are bad?

thanks,
Andrew

anyone?^^^^
Update I just ordered the Front and Rear Powerslot Cryo rotors ;)

What parts should I order for the calipers? some of you guys were mentioning slide pins and mounting bracket but is this really necessary?

thanks,
Andrew
Eliminate all other possibilities for your pulling to the left problem. Stewart
I mis typed the truck sometimes pulls to the right.....

What's happening that makes you think the bearings are bad?

Stewart
Sometimes when I am turning slowly I hear a grinding noise What would that be?

I ordered front and back cyros today..... tommorow I am going to order the Superduty pads

thanks,
Andrew
It looks like all my brake parts are going to be here today. I just got my pads so I am waiting on the rotors.

The truck seems not to pull any under regular braking

Anything else I need to buy?

thanks,
Andrew
