General Questions, searched forums and could not find answers:

Wanted to test the engine block heater this morning, found the cord in the front grill with the plastic cap still on it, plugged in the heater and left it plugged in for about an hour until i left for work. When i came back outside i unplugged it and felt where the cords come together they were slightly warm, obviosuly due to current flowing through it. When i started the truck it did start perfectly without any hesitation, is there any way for me to know if the heater works properly? Should my engine temperature be elevated? How long does it take to heat up when its plugged in? It was about 50 degrees outside, this is my first block heater i am dealing with, just curious?

Thanks
Patrick

Don't quote me but i belive its like 3 hrs prior to start if its under freezing. Block stay heated at thingk 80 degrees to keep the diesel from geling.I kno alot of guys that buy xmas light timers, splicing them into and extentsion cord and have them turn on the heater at say 3 am so they can start the truck at 6am. For anything over 40 I wouldnt even plug it in. Just my .2cent

Just feel your block, it should be warm after a couple hours depending on the ambient temp.

Found the below link and i believe this is correct, felt above the starter and its like a carrot sticking out the side of the block, will wait until engine cools down then plug it in and see if i can feel it heat up, let me know if the below link is correct?

Let the engine cool down, felt the block heater and it was cold, plugged it in and the back of the heater got hot, however i did not hear any noise from it, is it normal for it to not make any noise, it does appear to be working as it is heating up.

The other question i had is the electric cord has a protective cap on it, i need a new one and also one for my battery maintainer that i have ran a separate cord for, however i cannot find these online, could you point me to a website where these could be purchased from?
Thanks again
