Late 99 7.3 with 280k on original 4r100. I parked it overnight, the next morning i started it to move it, after it warmed up i got in it, and the OD light was blinking, stuck in 2nd gear. I got codes on my monitor(pictures attatched), cleared them, and they come right back. I cleaned all my plugs and took a look in the pan, everything looks normal there. Whats my next step? Do i test for continuity or stick an ohm meter someplace first then look into getting a solenoid pack? Thanks in advance, help is much appreciated.
Hi, Work Donkey!
Ford's wiring insulation is very strong, and you can have a broken wire inside the insulation. To check, it is most helpful to disconnect all the connectors on the tranny, and pull it to the left side where you can see it. Carefully clean all the wires and connectors, inspect them, and
carefully manipulate them. A sharp bend in the insulation could be a broken wire. On mine, I discovered breaks and had to replace the pigtail on the TSS (top, front) and the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) on the bottom left side. (For example!)
If you do need to replace the pigtail, replace one wire at a time to be sure you have them in the correct order. Some pigtails are not color-coded.
How did the tranny fluid look?
If you can't find anything, then unplug the tranny harness from the connector [normally] mounted on the frame underneath the master cylinder and do a sensor-end to plug end continuity test.
Oh -- some people discover at that point that road debris has been thrown up and broken something.
Good luck!
