i have a friend that recently aquired a 2000 F350 Crew Long Auto with 113K miles
right now it is bone stock with the expection of a 4 inch TB Exhaust and Gauges
he is most likely goin to get a DP Tuner
but he was wondering what to do with the trans? he cant dump $4k into a built trans so what is a good road to go down?
We have a ATS Dealer 4 hours away so it would be nice to stay with them if they are quality
so which direction should i piont him?
convertor?
control box?
whats the co pilot option?
what about a upgraded valve body? what do they do?

A good aftermarket converter and a valve/spring kit or valve body and you should be good to go. I ran that set-up on my truck for a while with mini-me injectors and a 38r. It wasn't 'til I started using the nitrous that I needed the full built trans.

so a good convertor and valve body upgrades will go a long ways then?
is there anything that will help with the free wheeling factor of an automatic besides an exhaust brake?

You can have Jody program the chip to keep the converter locked which will help slow the truck. You can also lock-out O/D on decel which will also help slow the truck. Those are about the only things you can do other than turn your EBPV into a brake or buy a real ex brake.

TransGo TuggerII reprogramming/valve body kit. This also has a optional mod that requires dropping the trans to drill out a passage for higher fluid flow. But if you're replacing the t/c no big deal. Try bulkpart.com or bulkparts.com, you can buy it online from them. last time I checked their website, the kit was about $120.

2nd the tugger kit... it will keep you from burning up the low/reverse clutch during compression braking in 1st and 2nd.

It reworks the vb's...
-but you have to pull the pump (need a slide hammer to do that)
-some mod's to the pump (I added a on/off lockup valve for the TC while I had it apart)
-upgraded coast clutch snapring
-upgraded overdrive clutch snap ring (I managed to get the spiral snap ring on the overdrive clutch with some serious patience a couple screw drivers and a bit of swearing) :hehe: Otherwise, you need a special tool to compress the spring to do it.
