Hey guys,

So i bought my truck back in Nov. of 06, i have driven it 14k miles already and only replaced brakes and ball joints since i bought it.

Then the whole deal with the no crank came about after it left me stranded at 2 a.m well it was electrical and didnt get it figured out for 2 weeks, Then i thought i fixed it and i was back to being happy with my " Reliable 7.3"

Well saturday i woke up at 4a.m at the hunting club and my truck randomly wouldnt crank, there i was 2 hrs from home and no crank. So i checked the main wiring harness which was the problem before and cleaned it out and it cranked up but ran rough, almost like it wanted to cut off everynow and then but it would catch itself.

So i cleaned it better w/ evapoating electrical cleaner and it ran all the wa home. But im scared to drive it any where now which is sad. I have a $20k truck that im scared to drive anywhere, its suppose to be a relaible motor but im deff. not convinced.

What should i do guys? Any help would be appreciated

Try a new CPS...sounds like yours is headed south.
Thanks man, already been replaced twice.

Its the main wiring harness ( on the driver side valve cover) im sure, it keeps corroding on the inside and i keep having to clean it out, but i never knw if thats the true problem and if its really fixed. It seems to fix it but i never know.

I think im going to fill the entire harness with non conductive silicone stuff and put some insulation around the outside so help keep the corosion from occuring

Replace the harness, is where I would start. If it's losing contact you may need a new one.

Also find out why it's corroding, that's not a normal problem.
I was told that to replace that harness would NOT be cheap, b/c everything as to be re-wired, but it is an option im just not keen on it.

And im not sure why its corroding, a diesel mechanic friend of mine had me check that first thing and sure enough he was right, he said that is common.

So idk, I think going to fill the harness w/ that nonconductive gel stuff for electrical componets and then wrap foam and duct tape around it to insulate it. What do you think about that?

im no electrical, expert but i do know ,if you have corrosion in wires, you cant clean it away, you can clean it ,but you never get it all out ;and it starts growing again,so cleaning it,and then burying it in some jell, and then tapeing it all toghther, sounds like alot of crap to take back off if it does it again...also a little corrosion in wire seriousley inhibits current flow, and thease trucks are very sensitive when it comes to electrical....

Probably not cheap, but may be the best option.

Maybe it's common back east where moisture and humidity are much greater than here, but I've never seen it. None of my families trucks in KY have had it happen either.

I 100% agree that it could be messy and that even a little corrosion inhibits it. So what do i do then?

i was told that the heating up and then cooling down of the engine is what causes it because of the condensation build up. But it seems like everyones truck would do the same thing.

Im at a complete loss of what to do, part of me wants to get it running then sell it ASAP

Clean out the connectors with baking soda and water mix... clean them several times, then blow them out with compressed air and let them dry overnight... Get some dielectric grease and squirt the hell out of it and put it together, pull it apart and do it again... about three or four times of this and the connector will be loaded up and you should be fine.

There is also a spray, that is for cleaning corrosion from battery terminals.

It's like baking soda foam in an aerosol can. Works great.
I've used that too, but it doesnt seem to flow like the watery stuff... JUST my opinion...:D

This is exactly what i was looking for. I had the exact same thing in mind, thank you soo much. NOW how will i know for sure if i fixed the problem or not b.c its so random?

Arighty i cleaned it all out and filled it with dielectric grease and siliconed the outside of the harness.

Time will tell, btw it would be $88.00 and hour for the stealership to even begin the diagnoses since i told him what it was he said to replace the harness would be idk... $1750.00!!!!

Ill see if my fix worked

Just get a new harness, and be sure to replace the valve cover gasket/ under the vc harness at the same time. Try calling here-
Marsh automotive siler city nc. They have a bunch of superduty stuff. I got one from them already. Or, you can get a new connector to splice in to your harness. Either way , its not that hard. The engine harness is no big deal to change. Mine is a little corroded now, just not causing problems yet. I have a spare harness, but its for a van,a few differences. I was told by a ford tech. not to put the dielectric grease in , cuase it would slow down the already slow electronics. I say BS. Mine seems to work fine with it.

Dont know why they would say it all has to be rewired??!! It just plugs in to your sensors.

Ill look them up and maybe give them a call if the problem persists, thanks a lot.

Seems like the harness would be hard to replace b/c of all the wires. I guess its not then.

Its not hard on the motor... everything just plugs in in the valley for the most part...
