Currently I'm looking at 2 trucks a 6.0 and a 6.4 which has the better tuning capability? I will just want better fuel economy and some extra hp when driving around town.. I won't be racing and stuff, Leaning more towards the 6.0 as I don't have to do a dpf delete right away

The 6.4 is much more refined than the 6.0 There isn't that much difference in MPG, it's basically a wash. A 6.4 pushing 600 hp on fuel with just an intake, exhaust and tune (deleted) is smoother, quieter and more responsive than a 6.0. It will also do anywhere between 18-20 mpg.

I highly doubt 18mpg is possible, a friends tuned 6.4 only gets 13-14 on a good day

$6-8k to fix the 6.0 issues top to bottom, or $15-17k for a new engine when the 6.4 grenades some pistons.... Hrmmmm....

Seriously though, 6.4 is much more responsive to tuning alone. Like mentioned already, 600hp is easily obtainable from just intake, exhaust and tune. Not all 6.0's are bad. They just REALLY like being taken care of. But you are asking a question that's basically opening up a pissing match....which is better. You will get 100 opinions.

6.4 is just a glorified 6.0, if that makes sense.

I'm not looking for a high horsepower truck, just have a little more response, I like the body style of the 08s but am looking at some 05 6.0s

You asked which has more tuning capability. My point was to show how well the 6.4 responds to tuning. And everyone says they want "just a little more power", until they get a little more and see how fun that is, then they want more, then more, then more.....then boom. LOL

I've never driven a 6.4, but talking to several owners of them they all claim they can't get over 16mpg no matter what. I'm sure the dpf delete will help, but still. I've gotten 18 in my CCLB 2wd DRW 6.0. That the best I've seen. I see guys claiming 20 in a 4x4 with bigger tires...it's not happening. Figure 15-17 average with either truck. Add power, or bigger tires, or rims, and it'll go down from there.

I see. I'm looking at ext cab 4x4s I'm not sure I'd need a lot of power the trucks already powerful. That said, I'll have to look into the 6.4 more but the higher miles is concerning.

***by no means am I trying to start a pissing match, I'm just wondering which has better tuning capabilities, thanks***

Look for lower miles no doubt..and one that was deleted quickly..they are out there.
I have nothing against the 6L either but between the 2 on their best day the 6.4
is way more refined.

In my price range this is really the only 6.4 I could afford, it has 190k one it , I if I can't find another 6.4 I may as well just get a 6.0 I suppose

That is a great point..you can get a pretty low mile 6l for a great price these days.

Do the necessary deletes and tlc you'll be fine.

Good luck
