Who has owned an IDI and how did you like it?? I really loved mine til the day i bought my Super Duty. The IDI was a great truck, but Ford really did a great job with this Super Duty body style and with the Powerstroke

he wasnt always working on it!!! Other than the technology being out of date, it was a good truck, but no comparison to the Super Duty

Logan, i almost considered the same thing for my 93. I am so glad i didnt go that route. Would have been a huge waste of money, especially for that Banks stuff

We owned a 6.9 IDI, then a 7.3 IDI then a 97 psd and 00' psd's...LOL

We have owned EVERY body style since 68 LOL
68'
78'
86'
90'
2 97's
2 00's

Superduty is by far the best setup........

But the new truck 78 body with superduty parts will be the best.......

UH um thats a bit off topic. LOL

When was the birth of the 7.3 IDI?
Wasn't it 87?

I have a 87 250 with the 6.9. It's a good truck and been around since my grandfather bought it in 87. However, these NE Ohio winters have done the body no justice and I am replacing every piece of sheet metal with the exception of the hood.
Was it an option to get a 6.9 or 7.3?
Just asking as the poster here has an 87 with a 6.9.
I thought the birth of the 7.3 was 87.

6.9 was the engine available thru 87 and the 7.3 IDI replaced it starting the 88 model year. My 87 has an all original drive train. I can atest to that since, I've been wrenching on it since I was 10 and have a whole file of recipes and maintenence logs:D.

My first car was a 1983 F250 6.9 that my dad ordered new and gave it to me when I graduated in 1990. I was even tinkering with them back then turning up a modified Bosch injection pump. I loved that truck. Smokey pig, though.

still have my 86 6.9 Banks 4X4, bought it in 1997, rebuilt engine one time, been through two C-6 autos, love the truck even though its a pig on the highway with the 4.10 gears. Turning up the fuel and adding a 5 inch exhaust has helped a bunch.

We had a '88, '91, and '93. All good trucks, sold them all as we started getting all SDs......same guy bought all of them and loves them.

'91 was the best and had the least amount of issues....and had over 300k on it when we sold it.
We got them all used with ~130k on them......where my dad used to work, they would lease them (flatbeds to tow heavy fifth wheels) and we bought them cheap once the lease was up.
