Another Coolant Question

Gentleman,

I have been lurking for a while reading and reading and reading but feel that every thread I have read does not match up for what I am looking for.

I have a 05 F350 6.0 with 108k miles. It has ARP studs, new heads, new turbo, ford gaskets, EGR delete and some more that I dont think is relevant.

Anyways, I am have having issues with no Heat in the cab along with a coolant smell in the cab while sitting still never moving. The amount of coolant in the degas is below the line usually but has since moved way below, almost couldn't see any in the bottle. The EOT/ECT are always within a few degrees of each other, no white smoke(that I can tell, it is cold outside), No diesel smell in the degas bottle, no coolant smell out of the exhaust, and a new cap(tested to hold 16psi). The heater control valve is allowing coolant past it as the hose on both sides is hot. I have notices a small amount of seepage of coolant coming from the cap.

I am hooking up a pressure tester to see if the systems goes over 16psi.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like head gasket issue, again (providing you have no leaks). Were the new heads machined?? Good idea to at least check flatness. Fords machining is not the best (assuming you used Ford heads?). Prep work has alot to do with it also. Who did the work? How many miles on the new stuff?
What about a heater core? Whenever I smell coolant inside but no where else I think it's a likely candidate (... since I've had two heater cores leak... in the same truck).

The work was done by Northwest Custom Diesel in Tacoma, Washington. I beleive they were Ford Heads, not sure as this work was already done when I bought the truck. The head work was actually done twice, the first go around they used black onyx gaskets but they cracked head was discovered at the time. The second time was when all this work was done. Less than 20k on the new build(stuff). The service records on the truck are great(have copies of most of the work Ford did). There is no visible leaks, no puddling under the truck, no crusty crap around the degas bottle.

I did the quick pressure test with bootleg parts(pressure gauge tapped into the coolant line) and the pressure rose to just below what looked like 14psi(hard to tell exactly) at idle, I know that would be way to high for normal operation, I test drove it with the gauge hooked up and really got on it, the pressure never changed.

Could a clogged heater core cause the system to over pressurize?

I thought the same but I cannot find any signs in the truck that it is leaking. Floor is dry and everything behind the glove box looks dry with no build up.

no a heater core wont have an effect on the total system pressure. It would create poor heat at all times.
I did another test this morning after reading about the temp deltas while highway driving. I read that the delta should never be more than 15. The truck for about 20 min at highways speed consistently was between 8-12 delta(usually around 170ECT/180EOT). The highest I recorded was 12 but was only for a split second and the returned to 10 delta.

Thoughts?
Its close to the limit but OK. When was the last time oil cooler was replaced? That is not your issue. Ford wants the coolant temp to be 190* for it to be a 'valid' test. Your coolant is too low. Has the thermostat ever been replaced?

These things have nothing to do with coolant loss however
I am not sure on when/if the oil cooler has ever been replaced. It has had very consistent coolant flushes/cleans. The Thermostat was recently replaced(not sure if a ford stat but I would feel comfortable saying it is due to the amount of work done at the dealership)
