Posting here, just picked up a factory ford aluminum cover and on the back side it looks like there is a spot for a gasket. Is this the case or is it just grooved for sealant?

Looks just like the grooves for upper oil pan that use "O" ring. My aftermarket cover has the same groove and has an "O" ring. Learn something new today. :)

I like the Permatex "Right Stuff" gasket maker, it's a little pricey, but for no more often that you have to do this I've found it to be extremely reliable and easy to work with. It makes a gasket in about a minute.
