Hey Guys.

I just recently sold my 2013 Cummins and looking to get into an OBS F350 cclb.

I attached some pics of the truck I'm considering. It's a 97 F350 with 330k km on the body and 180k km on a 2002 7.3L engine swap. It has a 4 in suspension lift and a 3 in body lift. Body is clean and we like the satin black. Was going to give the guy $10k, then we got it inspected at a diesel shop near the guy, and realized it was a bit of a project. The owner is having his mechanic fix a misfire, clean up the engine wiring and a few other things with the engine and sensors. We will have to do:

-Rad support and 6L tranny cooler (he's throwing it in to the deal)
-Rear leaf springs which I may upgrade to the 4 in skyjacker ones to make sure it can handle a sled in it
-A/C recharge
-Fix some play in the front left axle, could be a missing shim or snap ring, the mechanic said (or the hub itself needs replacing).

Also want to do some cosmetic/longevity upgrades including
-Sand blast (?) and undercoat undercarriage so it's black and not rusty looking, hopefully prevent further rusting
-37in wheels and tires
-Newer winch bumper
-Fender flares
-Maybe a paint job down the road to make it shiny black...

After the inspection, the seller told us he didn't realize there was a misfire and all the other stuff and was quick to get it booked in for some of the more important fixes. He dropped the price to $8500 CAD or (6350 US) which gives us some room to stay under the $15k mar with all the work and upgrades we are wanting to do.

Any advice? Is this a bad idea?

Weird. Ad says it's an F350. Mechanic didn't have anything to say about that either. Maybe the previous owner replaced something? Not sure what body work was done on it before the current owner got it. He said it was already painted when he bought it.

At any rate, I kind of like that it doesn't... I love how it looks. Just needs some extras to make it look mint.

not a bad price if they make it run properly.
i would loose the body lift, it will make it drive and handle better.
plus without the body lift, it will run cooler as the fan will go back into the middle of the radiator instead of being on the bottom of the radiator where it is now.
with the 4 inch suspension lift, 37 inch tires will fit just fine with that front bumper.

Thanks for the advice. We kind of love the height of it though! Will see how she drives if/when we go see it, might be worth taking the body lift out but I think the boyfriend may have strong objections (he's a junkie for a big jacked up rig). Any way to move the fan somehow so it doesn't run so hot?

The truck is about a 5 hour drive from us so we haven't seen it in person yet. The crew cab obs is hard to come by around here and importing from the states is an expensive hassle (plus our dollar isn't worth much down there).

there is no easy way to move the fan back into the center of the radiator.
being in Canada, you should be ok with the reduced cooling.
my biggest thing with body lifts is most companies use sub-par bolts, so if in an impact accident, the body can and a lot of times will separate from the frame when the bolts are stressed and break.

any vehicle that came into my shop with a body lift was not allowed to leave until i made sure the body bolts were grade 8 or stronger.

That's a good idea. Thanks for the input. Hoping this guy can get the engine running smooth so we can pick it up this weekend.

being in Canada, you should be ok with the reduced cooling.
I'd hope so! Does get quite hot here though and we do occasionally take our trucks up logging roads for camping trips and hikes. I actually blew the rad in the Cummins we had up a logging road last summer, cost over $500 to tow her out of the backcountry. It was brutal.

If you do buy it and notice it overheating you can always go to a electric fan setup.

I haven't seen anyone do it lately but it has been done quite successfully.

What do you guys think about getting some type of fan/fan shroud that works with the body lift put in when I have the rad support replaced?

there really is no way to use a fan shroud with a lowered fan efficiently unless you ditch the engine driven fan and go to electric fans.

E-fans are safe and very efficient if done properly. puller fans between radiator and engine are way better than pusher fans mounted in front of the radiator.

Thanks. Will see what my mechanic can do I suppose. Might be a bit of a weird ask for a body shop doing the rad support. Already found one place willing to put the tranny cooler in, so worth a shot.

What about taking out the body lift and doing an RSK? Is that a better option than the body lift? How much labour do you think to take out the body lift and put that in.

labor to remove the body lift is not bad, hardest part is lifting the cab.
and asking a body shop to do a e-fan conversion is not that far of a stretch, most body shops have mechanics either in shop or on call to deal with issues that arise from taking things apart.

I have a a F350 without cab lights.:shrug:
