99 7.3 powerstroke issue.

I've got an early 99 7.3 dually that recently had a brake caliper break, because the brakes were not changed. Oops. I went to bleed the brakes after replacing the caliper, and noticed the drivers side inside of the wheel was COVERED in oil. Thick, trash. I checked the pumpkin on the rear axle, and sure enough it is dry as a bone. The oil must have come through the inside of the axle and found its way out on the tire. What needs done to fix this? I am guessing a gasket blew, but have no idea as to part numbers.

Might want to pull the pumpkin cover to see how much damage has bee done.
4x4. 150,000 miles or close to it. Dual rear wheels. Did all the standard stuff that needs done at this point. Ball joints, transmission cooler upgrade. I just replaced all the brakes after the rear caliper cracked. Opening up the pumpkin would be wise. It drives fine, and there was fresh (garbage) oil as well as old, so I believe that I caught this issue at the moment that I needed to. On a side note, my wipers stopped working a while ago. Then entire harness melted. I replaced everything to do with the wipers including the motor, switch, harness. I still have no wipers. AnddI believe that it may possibly be due to a ground wire that I have heard mention of in the past, but I do not know where it comes from or goes to, so there is my other issue.
rear axle leaking out at the wheel is a bad axle seal, not gasket.
Diffs are pretty resilient, replace the seal and fill the diff. Hope for the best. If you can't get too it quickly, fill the diff anyways if you are going to use the truck. Better to keep the gears/bearings lubricated and leak than to go dry.

I tend to agree. I got more into it yesterday, and found that was only partway empty of gear oil. I got in there far enough to find the level was low and not empty. I will drain and replace seals, gaskets, and fluids.
