So I've got a late 99 that I'm doing the ZF6 swap on I currently have a NVK3 PCM, and run a TS chip My question is can I keep my NVK3 PCM and just get the TS reburnt as if I had a DAC3 PCM, I could have used the one from the donor truck but it was early 99 and from what I've been told those wont support the new stuff? And they don't have the umph the late 99's do. Either way I know I was looking at a re-burn of my chip at the least, as far as I understand you can use any of the late PCM's you wish because once you install the chip it takes over anyway..right? Also just getting the chip re-burned would be easy, cheap, and fast because I live about 15 minutes from , Thoroughbred diesel and they can do it while I wait in about 10 minutes to run of the mill DAC3 tunes. Just needing someone with more experience than me to point me straight. TIA!!!

Well I was hoping not at first but when I put it all together using my NVK3 and TS burnt for it, I'm getting REALLY bad lag till around 1500ish rpms then it finally decides to take off and was told it was due to shift points in the automatic

Sounds like a stock zf6 truck to me. You just have to learn to drive it different.

And it will be laggy until over 2000 rpm when the turbo really gets to going.

Depends on budget.

But try shifting close to 3k rpms.

Well I've got fresh stock AD injectors, gtp38r ,the chip, bellowed up pipe kit, 5in exhaust factory down pipe, factory air intake with a k&n, but that's all I've done to it. What kind of tuning should I do? Not trying to through a ton of power at it, just want it to run well like it should but overkill isn't what I'm after, with that being said if I ever do want to put my foot in it I would like it to wake up. Not really trying to go over 5k would like to keep it between 3-5

Ditch the k&n.
Talk to 1023 diesel, cncfab, etc. See who you get ahold of first.

One of the cons of a standard tranny, boost threshold. The threshold is the same for both transmissions, but people tend to shift too early and they're constantly falling below the threshold with each shift.

Either shift later, or get a smaller turbo, or put an automatic back in it. A hotter tune might help a little, but it won't change the boost threshold. Ya can't change that without changes to the turbo.

Tighten down the waste gate rod some. Unhook the red tube to the actuator and stick it on a boot clamp. New intake. What tunes do thorough breed diesel have?

I'm really not sure what tunes they have other than just the default ts tunes, was thinking about sending it to tw. About the turbo do you think I should go back to the stock unit?

Oh it's a different turbo? I'm not sure man, I don't know anything about that turbo, or at what rpm they should make boost. But if the threshold is too high then the turbo is probably too big, or there's a leak in the exhaust feed somewhere.

I'd probably try it.

The waste gate on the 38r is left pretty loose from the factory. If your letting all the drive pressure past the turbine it won't spool. Some nice tunes will help too. I would recommend getting some good tunes and not the crappy ts tunes.
