I just had an ATS tranny put in my truck (keep the boo's down please) and mods are as mentioned in my signature...I am currently getting no more than 450 kms (approx 280 miles) per tank...I think my tank is 100L, maybe 120...I run at about 1800 rpm when on the highway doing 100km/h (slightly over 60 m/h)...I have a buddy with a 2000 F350 7.3 and he gets twice the mileage I do no problem....

I am religious on oil changes and fuel filters...i dont currently run an additive...tires are at 50psi...no sticking brakes (anymore)...up pipes probably leak as the truck has 386000kms...

help? or is it normal? need different tunes? thanks in advance

How many gallon tank do you Have? I think shortbeds have smaller tanks.

the most i think i've ever put in it is just shy of 100L but supposedly the venting on ford tanks sucks and you can get another 10-15L in after the first click...

oh and I do mostly highway driving so my mileage should reflect that...

With the info you gave me your getting around 10.7MPG. That's goin 280 miles on 26 gallons, that's what your liters converted to.

That's pretty bad. Are you running a chip?

a power hungry performance tuned 6 position TS chip...running in 80 econo most of the time...trying 140 hp now to see if it gets better...

what about sensors? would they do this? IPR? IDM module?

You are right about the poor venting. After the first click I can get 4-5 additional gallons of fuel in the tank before being able to see it in the filler neck.

Don't measure fuel mileage by "how many miles you can get in a tank". Instead, record your miles between full fillups and record the amount of fuel added to return the tank to fuel. This will allow you to calculate the mpg. Do not depend on the computer for mpg figures.

For crying out loud. Use miles and US gallons. You are likely to botch the conversion somewhere otherwise.

our pumps are in liters and odometers are in kms...so i'll hafta convert for americans...haha...

i don't use the lying computer for my numbers...but i'll run it again and see what i require to fill up...

but what are other causes for bad mileage that i may be missing...?

so I've run a couple of tanks through with filling to the filler neck each time and logging kms on factory tire size...I've done highway tanks and general highway and city driving on both 140hp setting and 80 hp econo tunes...the best I can get is 14mpg (600kms with 106.375 litres)...and thats driving ver conservatively...not a heavy foot at all...which sucks...i'm using this website to do the conversion...

I noticed this weekend that I do have leaky up pipes...not sure how much that makes a difference...

There was a mod described on the old Ford-Diesel.com website called the MaroonHarpoon (or more often just Harpoon) that solved the air lock problem in the early Super Duties.

I forget just how it worked but when I dropped the tank to do other mods I used my PVC pipe snippers and chopped about two-thirds of the vent tube off.

Never had any trouble since getting a precise (and quick) fill after doing it.

lift and mud tires don't help mileage.
do you have an EGT gauge?

helps you know how to drive.
when accelerating, try to keep your egt's below 500F. it's real slow, but it'll get you a few mpg.
