How much more power are you wanting?
there are some simple things you could do like a chip (may be hard to find one for mercruser spasifcly but may be able to get something) or some sensor foolers, then you could bugrade turbo, injectors, and on and on.....

I guess the first thing you'll have to figure out what kind of computer system it has on it, ford or international. they will probably look the same but may have some diferances in tuneing

 

there is no electronics on the motor 2 put a chip i already have a manual boost controler it has a Schwitzer 166735 turbo good for 44psi n 530hp and i can turn up the fuel looking 2 do nitrous wwas wondering if anybody knows if there is a wet nitrous system out there for diesels

I say for quick really cheap power put a resistor in the ICP and see how you like the power. Look up the 10K mod.

That's an indirect injected 7.3L NOT a Powerstroke.

 

Even though you say its a 96, it looks to be an IDI.oke: Pump mods and lower compression would help out alot.

any info on those motors? i heard the injectors were bigger than a trucks. i mean 270 out of an idi w/o smoking out the world is awesome lol. i didn know they made them that new. stanedyne(sp) injector pump or other?

 

I don't know much about the motors except they are down a couple points on compression, different cam?, and rev a little higher.

EDIT- oh wait, the pic I posted is direct injected.

 

Moved this to the correct section. I'm intrested to see what's diffrent about this motor then what was in the trucks.

 

I would give Hypermax a call. They were one of the first to hop up the IDI's. You can get a higher output injection pump.

Have you increased the fuel of your factory pump and bumped up the timing any? Those are the simple and "free" things you can do to increase power. Other than that you are looking at bigger injectors, aftermarket pump, internal motor work.

i dont think that the direct injection "powerstroke" 7.3 came in boats until 99.

i still want to get a hold of an intake off of one of those engines.

 

that would rock in a truck,crank up that injector pump!!!!!!

 

I would be looking at head studs if you are putting more than 10psi out of the turbo

 

They don't make head studs for a 7.3l IDI last I heard. You can get them for a 6.9l though.

evrything ive read says the 6.9 and 7.3 idi blocks are the same,the 7.3 is basically a bored over 6.9
