Guys,
I just bought a 2008 F250 4x4 KR CCSB. I want to maximize my mpg's with in reason. The truck has 3.73 gears and automatic

My plan
- AFE 4" Turbo Back
- AFE Stage 2 intake
- H&S Mini Maxx with custom tune
- Tonneau Cover (came with truck)
- Sinister EGR Delete
- Sinister Coolant Filtration
- FS-2500 By-pass oil filtration
- Stock 20's with stock tires
- 2" drop with 5.4 front springs and no blocks in the rear
- Full Redline synthetics: transmission, transfercare, and f/r diff
- Mobil 1 motor oil 15w40
- Preston radiator flush and replace with ELC Cat 5
- Fuel filters
- Trans filter

Goal 23-24 mpg's on my 70 mile control loop with normal diesel (no Bio)

I drive 65 mile round trip to work and i would like to make that at 20ish without too much trouble on B100 or B50 (if B100 will not do it) I have a source of high quality B100 about 4 miles from the house :) ...

I am very good at driving conservatively for mpg's. I had a 2007 F350 DRW CCLB 4x4 auto with 4.10's with intake, turbo back, and tunner, it was stolen :( . I could get 19.5 on my control loop, and 18.5 on my commute to work. The new truck is more aerodynamic, lighter, half the drive wheel rotational inertia!!! better gears, and more efficient engine.

How possible is this too do?

dpf delete, intake and exhaust is pretty much gonna tell you what the best mpg you can get. every truck is different. personally i think your goal is a bit high. i am getting 14-15mpg. i run kem 345, intake, exhaust and egr delete. my lie-o-meter reads 22mpg but hand calculated its always between 14-15mpg. i wouldnt run anything higher than b5 since these motors are only made to run on regular and up to b5 diesel. im sure others do run high % of bio but thats just me. but yeah get it tuned delete the dpf and throw on an intake and see what happens.

Only thing I can see that will help MPG is the tonneau and lowering the truck.

All the other stuff may confer other benefits but won't improve MPG.

My 6.4 right now usualy gets about 17 highway if I'm at a nice cruise, no 75-80. Thats with 4" DP back, S&b, and H&S 300 hand calculated on 35" trail grapplers. With stock tires, lowered etc like you planned you might see 20 on a nice highway cruise. My too and from work drive has no highway and i usually average only about 13

you will probably be at 20 if you set your cruise at 65. I'm averaging about 18 right now since I've lowered the truck back down haven't got my 5.4 springs yet they show up thursday. But really isn't going to add to your mpg. What others have stated about you installing a tuner and dpf delete will be your biggest gain over stock. But don't get your hopes up if you don't reach your mpg goal.

I know it sounds funny but i drive at 65mph all the time. I don't like getting tickets :) I have issues getting tickets in the modded Vette :)

Okay new goal LOL. 20mpg's. I know when i drove my F350 dually i was getting 19.5 mpg's hwy, calculated. Thats staying under 40% load at all times, under 2000 rpm at all time, Coasting up to stop lights, and all those other other hyper mileage tricks :)

I have been reading a lot on here about mpg tests. Some say that folding big towing mirrors back can help 1mpg! Well i have those auto folding mirrors :) so it will be easy to test.

I will document my findings on this thread :). I will post hand calcs and lie o meter calcs.

BTW how could that mpg comp on the truck be sooo wrong!!! You would think it would be super simple. Any aftermarket system that can measure accurately?

When I ran my spartan for over a year the meter on the dash was WAY off atleast 7+ most the time. On the new H&S 300 tune my dash stays within 1mpg every fill up. If I look at my dash and subtract 1 it usuallys is dead on to my hand calc. The biggest difference I've seen from meter to hand was around 2 when I was towing a boat.

I just drove from Virginia Beach, VA to Forsyth GA, about 620 miles with “no regeneration”. All I did was keep the truck running about 65 to 70 mph. My fuel mileage was; first fill up I averaged 18.0 mpg and the second I averaged 18.1 mpg (hand calculated). I did add Diesel Kleen at every time I got fuel, but I have done this since I have gotten the truck. My latest regeneration lasted about 20 minutes and last between 36689 and 36710 miles. The fuel consumption gage went down from 16.5 to 16.4 mpg. My normal fuel mileage to and from works is around 13 to 14 mpg, highway runs around 17 to 18. I use cruise control on my long hauls. The truck is stock, all I have done is change the oil/filter every 5000 miles, I change the fuel filters at 10000 miles, and the air filter at 20000 miles. I plan to change the transmission fluid/filter at 50000 miles.
I drive the truck hard; I run the engine up to 2000 rpm on my accelerations. I use this truck as my daily driver so it sees some stop and go driving. This is the biggest problem with the DPF, stop and go driving will clog the filter and cause excessive regenerations. When possible I try to run it up to 70 mph on the expressway and get the temp up in the exhaust so that it will cleans itself out without going into regeneration. One thing that maybe I ought to do but I don’t, I should drive till the exhaust cleaning is complete.

I've run all 4 of the IDP tunes, + 1 IDP MPG tune, the 345 and a modded 345 for mpg/throttle tip in.
On hwy @ 70 the best i got was 18 hand calculated w/ the Xt street. My city runs about 15.5 w/ the Xt st. I've read a few times that the street or tow is better for in town as there is where most of my driving is.

Smokin' Joe as 3.31 gears and a slightly lowered ride and claims a high of 24mpg hand calculated.
The 6.4 is never going to be as good w/ mpg vs the 7.3 IMHO. Power galore but mpg is touchy.

I know i am an optimist. hehe...
As long as i can squeze 20 i will be happy.
6.4's are known for power, but with power comes efficientcy :) just stay out of the throttle

This Friday i will do my test loop to see what mpg's i can get (yes hand calculated)
I put all the parts on 1st week of Aug and i will do the control loop again :) (yes hand calculated)

I have some advantages in Houston:
- Long steady HWY driving
- No wind
- At sea level
- Roads are in great shape
- Max speed limit is 65mph

FYI...

:flipa: comparing mpg on a 7.3 to the 6.4 is not even close

The 08 cab, int ect. is nicer than my 02 and it is SS camaro fast but my 7.3 consistantly got 18mpg. I could play in the sand dunes for 3-4 hours and still hand calculate 16-17 mpg. I miss it primarly for that reason alone.
dollar for dollar the 6.4 will run circles around the 7.3 power wise for just 1200 bucks. A GTP38R runs more than twice that plus another 3K for good sticks, then fuel, exhaust, etc.. and so on.

Anyone have a tune that gets better then another? I am trying the stock tune to see if it get better mileage then the 275 or 345. i would think it would seeing how the 345 smokes like a chimney.

Well I did a stock run ( but my truck already had the cat and SPF delete) and got 20 mpg hand calc. Currently truck is in pieces hehe, I was waiting on a special intercooler hose. I got all the exhaust, intake, ccv, vfm, and 90 percent on the erg delete. I should finish up this Sunday :). My best bro's wedding is sat in another city. So I have been driving the vette to work lol I have not done that in years, little fun ;)
