6.0 vs 7.3

The 6.0 with an sct is liable to be anywhere from 380-420 rwhp. A stock injectored 7.3 is going ot struggle to get much past 320, and some wont get there. Youll be looking at a mild set of injectors, a turbo upgrade, and potential fuel system upgrades. Then it is up to you if you want to keep the pmr rods and take a small chance (or big chance depending on tuning) or swap out for forged.

If you go with forged rods, a set of 230-250cc hybrids, a turbo upgrade, fuel system, head studs, and transmission will get you in the 450-500 range.

my brother has a 6.0 w/ sct custom tuned by idp..... and he blew the doors off an 04 cummins with smarty and edge stacked, and tranny work, and he beat a dmax with a ppe and banks six gun stacked. so sct with 6.0 is bad a$$

Did the cummins w/ smarty have a lift pump in addition to his tranny mods? Did the dmax have a shift kit and/or lift pump?

As good as a 6.0 runs with a nice custom tune, a dmax with ppe and the mods needed to accompany that has the potential to be a second quicker in the 1/4.

So say you take a 7.3 truck, completely bone stock and you do what you need to do to the motor to get it to 400-420 horse at the rears. Now you drive the ever living PISS out of it and pull a trailer the same way. How reliable is it?

The point is, yeah a 6.0 has a lot of problems, but saying they blow up with just a tuner easier than a 7.3 with just a tuner isnt an apples to apples comparison.

Our gooseneck weighs around 14k loaded and i dont like the way my 6.0 pulls without the race tune on it. A 6.0 takes a good solid tune to pull at 1800-2200rpms as well as a stock 7.3 imo.

There is 2 sides of the story, the point is to look at the whole picture, not just think any single motor is the best just because its what happens to be under your hood.

the 5r's, in stock form with a good tune, will hold 400 horse for a longer period of time than a 4r. This is including the torque converter.

I still prefer to tow with a 7.3 over any motor.

But i cant complain too much, my 6.0 took 40k miles for the headgaskets to go (not from a lack of trying) and ive been beating the absolute crap out of it for another 20k since. Problem is, its got another 380k to catch my 7.3 lol.
