I have a buddy looking to buy a 6.0 that he willl use for work. Truck seems to run fine and build boost when he is not towing anything but the second he put a trailer on the truck becomes gutless and can barley get it to 55 mph in to mode. Anyone have this kinda problem? Truck has some mods done to it coolant filter supposedly been bulletproof

what year is the truck it can help us figure out issues by year , also every diesel owner especially a 6.o owner knows that with a corrrect monitor you can point out issue like low boost due to y pipe leak or a simple as a damaged cac tubes

It’s a 2006 f250. I have the same truck but a 350 and have pulled plenty of trailers with no problem so I’m not much help for my buddy other than having him look at a few basic things. Sounds like a ypipe sometimes causes this problem.

Tell him to look at the driver side black plastic cac tube going into the intake manifold infront of the egr valve, it has known to crack on the bottem , also hear around for leaks it can be causing him low boost those y pipes love to crack over time, also make sure the maf- mass air flow is connected correctly to the air intake maybe dirty or damged even the epb sensor... have it scanned to see if it has any codes stored. I just purchased a obII bluetooth 23 bucks from amazone took 3 days to get and forscan and torque pro for 5bucks on android or iphone each and it saved me from taking my rig to guys who charge 65 or more to scan our trucks . 6.0s are laggy down on start but once the vgt turbo lets loose she becomes a beast but they are very bery delicate beasts and loved to be maintained like crazy .

Depending on the miles, I would also think of maybe cleaning the vgt side of the turbo

There are far too many possibilities. We could probably through out a dozen and there would still be a couple dozen other possibilities. Your friend is going to need to give you some specs so you can share with us. Stuff like ICP, IPR, boost, injector pulse width, EBP, ECT, EOT, FICM input and output, and I would even take a look at CFM through the air inlet tube. Sure, if it's just a CAC tube leak, you'll only need one of those readings....or if it's a dropped injector you'll probably only see it in codes...but figuring it out will be a lot easier with all of the information. Oh, and I would have him collect that info at idle, at speed unloaded, at speed loaded, and perhaps even during acceleration while loaded.
