My 2003 6.0 when I go to start makes a click. Headlights work and all electronics work, just seems starter is not engaging. Good fuses, batteries, starter and solenoid. I'm at a dead end with it now. I haven't pulled any codes yet but am trying to find a fix online before I blow 50$ on a reader.

I would try to hit the start and see if in start it so u have a bad starter. But also make sure u have 12v at the pwr wire KOEO and 12v at the signal wire while cranking

I had this same problem with my '06 a couple of months ago. I unplugged the starter connector on the passenger wheelwell and connected it to the passenger side battery. It started fine, which indicated that I had a bad ignition switch. I replaced it and have had no other problems.

Find the yellow with light blue striped colored wire adjacent to the passenger side battery in the engine compartment, near the vacuum pump that has a "squeeze-and-pull" type connection. Disconnect it, and jump the male end of the connector to the passenger side battery positive terminal. The starter should crank.

If it doesn't, then the starter is bad or you have an electrical problem w/ the wires to the starter.

Hes wasting his time with the safety switch. Parts swapping is pretty typical of some diy-ers. 5 minutes with a multimeter would save a ton of money.

I put a radiator in a Honda last week cuz a kid tried to replace his t stat. lol. For some reason he ran a screw through the radiator neck from the inside. I have no idea what the thought process was, but there ya go. Also the inner sealing boss looked like a dremmel got to it somehow. It was some of the more impressive DIY work I've seen in a while.

lol, I can imagine you have seen some interesting things!

Hey back to this thread - wouldn't a positive jumper wire test be an indication of the need to check the fuse and relay on the starter power supply?

yes - getting the starter to crank w/ the jumper wire.

I guess I was thinking that there was a relay or fuse (or maybe a fusible link) on the battery cable to the starter (not just the ignition circuit fuse and relay).

There might be another fuseable link there, I'm not sure. It would be highly unusual to get a click from the solenoid yet the solenoid circuit or solenoid itself is still the problem. But maybe, checking power at the solenoid while cranking should tell the story there.

Also, batt cable to the starter is the big one that hooks to the motor terminal. That one is called the batt cable or batt positive.

Solenoid wire is the yellow one you were talking about jumping earlier.

Yeah I know ............ I guess I was just thinking about confirming that the battery cable is supplying its power to the starter by bypassing the ignition and neutral switch and fuel cutoff circuitry. That should have been confirmed if the clicking was the solenoid as you mentioned. I have said it many times - I hate electrical issues.

So - in his case, if it was the starter solenoid clicking, then he should not have gotten a crank w/ the jumper wire, but he said he did. Maybe a weak starter relay?

So I am having pretty much the exact same problem with my starter. 2006 6.0 Powerstroke. Batteries are new in September, Starter new last year, New relay. Turn the key and get a click , jump starter with y/b wire to pass pos battery just a click. Hook up booster cables and jump starter truck starts but not with turning the key. Volt meter is reading 14.1 with the truck running. I figure I will be laying in the snow tracing wires 🤮
