I have done searches and get conflicting info. I just completed the 6.0 cooler swap, valve body and flush with merc/dex- this stuff Castrol Transmax Dexron/Mercon Domestic Multi-vehicle (ATF) Automatic Transmission Fluid (1 Gallon) 03520: Get the best Automatic Transmission Fluid at Advance Auto Parts

The first question is how accurate is the temp coming from the OBD port? My understanding is that it pulles the temp from the sensor in the pan?

Prior to the swap I would range from 150-160 with athe ambient temps being about 40-50 ish. Today after the swap ambient temp was 68 ish and trans was running 130-131 which I think is good. Does this sound right?

During the swap while cleaning the pan I found a good chunk of metal, not sure where it came from almost looks like it was part of a cap? Trans seems to be fine with no issues. I'm wondering if maybe the trans blew up and was rebuilt? There is a mark inside the pan like something hit it.

Everything seems to be good so far, trans did slip tonight during the test run and bounced off the rev limiter. Only did it once seems to hold and not slip even when hammering on it. Any thoughts are appreciated.

The temperature from the OBD port is the most accurate you can find. It reads a sensor on the solenoid body.

Any trans temp that is about 60-100°F above ambient is normal for the 4R100.

Thanks Mark!

I thought my temps were within reason, I guess I was thinking I would be running a little bit cooler with no load this time of year.

Any thoughts on the metal piece I found? I'm really thinking it was from before and this trans was rebuilt. The pan was surprisingly for a truck with 176K which I why I think it was either rebuilt or at the least serviced. I'm kinda thinking runs this trans until it goes vs. buying a BTS trans now.

No thoughts at all on a piece that I can't see.

Yeah that makes sense duh. And of course it must have gotten tossed. I'm gonna go with all is good tranny shifts like butter at the moment. Main question was about the temp reading from the OBD port. Glad to hear that it is accurate. Thanks for the input Mark.
