What should I do next.......comeics and studs are going on....thinking about firerings (maybe). should I get the heads worked on while I have them out. push rods..??? My motor has 220,xxx miles not sure what else to look into while I'm in there.

if you put cometics on there i would have the head re-decked to insure full coverage. pushrods and stiffer valve springs probly wouldn't be a bad idea either, before i did that i bent 2 pushrods in 2 weeks.

Depends. Stock "Virgin" gaskets with over 150,000 or so miles on them are basically the strongest material on the face of the planet when combined with headstuds. They will fair much, much better than the rods and likely the block.

You have to be careful when running brand new ones though. They tend to spit out when freshly installed. They seem to like some miles on em before they start to turn into unobtanium.

If I ever have a gasket issue, I plan to run the stock thickness Cometics and a set of Cuninghams (since Hypermax rods are non-existent nowadays). And that's it. Maybe fill the block a tad and toss some studs in the mains. I feel that should be fine for mid 800's on fuel with daily reliability. 1000 if you wanted to push things.

Two Cents

I thought Hypermax had a new set of rods in production. I know Brian T bought a set and he said they were beautiful.. Very evenly balanced and light.

Those are the ones I was talking about. I think the new generation of rods is in the same price range as all the others. In that case, might as well go with cuninghams for weight, cause you damn sure aren't going to bend any of the aftermarket offerings....period. And if you do bend one, you don't have a block left anyway. They are all so much stronger than the block it's not even funny.

fwiw elmo is running stock gaskets and studs if i'm not mistaken
ARP's and stock head gaskets are such a good combo you can blow your head gaskets in Utah and still tow a truck and trailer back from Fla.:D

all kidding aside after extensively using H11's and now playing with ARP's I'll stick with ARP's. They have more than proven themselves in Elmo's' truck!!

while the heads are off you should install some stiffer valve springs.
Good idea-with 43 psi boost, you couldn't measure the drive pressure on a 60 psi gauge.

Hopefully you didn't bend a rod when the gaskets let go.

What do you trq your ARP's to?? That seems to be a common question, with many different opions given. ANd no one agrees with ARP's recommendation that i have seen.
