Hey guys I'm having some issues with my transmission. Just within the past couple of days I have been having some problems with a delayed/harsh engagement in drive and reverse and at the 2-3 shift it will flare and bang until it makes the shift. And 3-5 will flare then shift extremely hard. I have been running the extreme street tune for about 60 miles now. I am currently at 98k. Just today the tow/haul light flashed and I pulled codes and had a P0751. I believe it's for SSA. I have read about the improved direct clutch solenoid. Has anyone installed this to fix this issue? Anyone have any ideas on this one? Hoping I don't have to pull the trans. Truck has no performance upgrades other than the tune... which I loaded the stock one back in and am still having issues.

If you install a new direct clutch solenoid I can gaurantee that you will still have a code P0751. That code is for the coast clutch solenoid, not the direct clutch.

This solenoid is not involved with the 2-3 or the 3-5 shift, unless your tune is doing something strange and turning it on.

When you installed the tune did you clear the memory? If not, the adaptive software may be way out of whack which will cause 2-3 and 3-5 shift problems.

Yeah I looked into it a little more and your right the code is for SSPC-A. I ordered one from ford and will be installing it tomorrow. I'm praying I don't find metal when I pull the pan. Very odd it would flag that code when I'm having the 2-3, 3-5 symptoms.

As far as the tune, I've been running that same tune for about 60k now.... sorry I mis wrote that in the original post.

So now we have coast clutches? I have never even heard of a coast clutch.

It's ridiculous how much this stuff changes.
The E4OD had a coast clutch when it debuted in 1988. The 4R100 had a coast clutch, too.

So I went into work today, pulled the pan to change SSPC-A and there was a pretty good
Amount of metal in the pan. If you ran your finger over the filter opening it looked like you touched anti seize. So looks like it's time for the trans to come out. I don't know how this could have happened... I'll be honest I never really work the truck... no towing or plowing. I don't beat it either. I kept up on changing the fluid and filters. I ran the extreme street tune from innovative for the last 60k but like I said I don't beat on it and drive it like an old man 80% of the time.
