alright so ive located a 2004 f250 donor truck with expandable tow mirrors, turn signal and mirror heater. the problem is while the turn signal should be working theyre not, and they're doin some funny stuff... Ive managed to make a wiring harness for mirror controls, and lights I've tested the lights and all the wiring to the mirrors should be correct but when i turn on the four way, the parking light and turn signals on the mirrors flash. also i noticed not all led's would light up. any of you 2004 owners have a manual would you let me know if the voltage to the mirrors needs to be dropped due to the LED's also if you have a wiring diagram could you scan me a copy of it??? i dont wanna have buy a 04 book just for this diagram so your help is appreciated.the mirror controls work fine its just the damn lights! I also need to figure out if i need to wire a seperate switch into the heated mirrors, or if they have their own thermostat/switch inside them i do not recall seeing a switch for the heated mirrors.

BTW the mirrors are installed on the ford in my sig.

your easiest thing to do with the turn signal/ markers is to run a wire from the mirrors to ur front marker/signal in the front and splice them together....

thats what i did. for whatever reason they just decided to wig out, like the park signal and turn signal on one side would flash alternately when i turn the turn signal on with the park lamps on..... really weird and not all the lights will light up... thats why im trying to figure out if maybe the voltage was dropped because they're led's I'm not really sure. im gonna try moving the ground to the frame and see if that changes anything

the only other question i have is whether or not the mirror heater is automatic, or if i need to wire a switch in for that i never looked to see if the donor truck had a mirror heater switch.... and i dont have a manual that covers the 03 up truck...

also i didnt cut any corners, i got 14 guage automotive wire, used a wire loom around all wires coming out of the door, followed the fender ziptied everything out of sight and secure, used a western union solder on all splices, used shrinkwrap to cover every exposed solder and nylon expandable wire loom around everywire... sooo all connections are solid, nothings grounding out, nothings being pinched, every wire was checked and rechecked before hooking it up. The only thing is i used a nine volt batter to test all the lights before install.. and then after install the mirrors did that thing, so im wondering if i need to use a dc-dc step down to five or six volts cause they're led or if they run off the 12v system if so i need to recheck everything. I'm just trying to cover bases before i rip it all apart again.

Sounds like a connection issue ground or power?? I had the same thing happen when I was installing mine.... All the LED's wouldn't light up...but I rehooked everything back up and they worked... I have not touched it since.

It's heated all the time - regardless of outside temperature.
I'll give you a post from JimTJr - he made a factory looking plug that worked perfectly!

Very easy really, they are a direct bolt on replacement. The wiring is also not a big deal either, I f your truck has the square plugs, it is even easier. I went to a junk yard, and got a "donor plug" see here and removed the pins with 6" of wire on them still.
Then ran the wires for the lights, and heat. I wired my heat to a rocker switch,,, lighted, see here And the park/turns to wires I found under the dash.
If your plugs on the truck are the round ones, it wont be quite as easy, you may have to hardwire everything. Or go to a junk yard, and salvage some plugs off a newer truck, it wouldn't matter what mirrors they had, they will still have the squared style plugs.
Hope this helps.

All your connections can be made right under the dash... No reason to run wires all over the place, ground them to the bolt just behind the door cover, run a wire to the back side of the light switch for the running lights and another for each of the turn signals.... The heat I ran a power to the correct wire then a switched it. There always on the way Ford wired them... There is no need for any voltage drop...

okay, yea i didnt wanna take the dash apart the relay for the turn signals on my truck i believe is right behind and under the stereo, so i opted to run the wires straigh to the front turn/marker lights instead. I think this weekend im going to move the ground i think that might be the culprit here, as for the heated mirrors i think i am gonna run a hot wire to an acc. fuse, or maybe put a switch in line i havent decided yet

The main harness is under the steering column, take a test light and probe the wires and you will find the left and right wires for turn... You dont need to ground anywhere but right at the mirror. I would put the heat on a switch, if not the water spots will drive you nuts...

Had my heated mirrors for about 8 months now and have turned the heat on maybe three-four times at the outside...

okay, yea thats how i found the relay for the signals its conveniently located right behind the AC panel under the dash and was a pain to get to, the wiring i did doesn't look bad at all though so Im relatively happy with it, I'm not sure the 99 has the heated mirror option so i dont believe theres a "correct" wire for it, so Like i said i think im going to find a acc fuse and wire it to a switch.

thanks for all the help, I'll get some pictures up when im done, I like the look of these mirrors as opposed to the old ones i had. They were just the tow mirrors, and they stuck out forever so it was kind of annoying when i didnt have anything on, that and the paint was startin to come off... lol and I cant beat the price, gotta love people who dont pay there bills!!

so turns out i ####ed up,:eek:wned: and was trying to ground the passenger side mirror with the positive wire to the turn signal... once i switched the two and got the correct ground the mirror worked perfectly.:pointlaugh:

as for the driver side, the reason its acting up is because the douche that was in possession of the truck(repossessed) i stole them off of, damaged the lense and i think messed up the power supply to that side of led's it seems like the short is inside the mirror itself.:lame: soo if you havent already read my new thread, ive ordered new lenses from recon, and soon as i get em in the mail, and get the old lenses out were golden.. sooo any ideas on takin the old lenses off???
